so, an hour ago, Chief asked me to catch him a Centipede! because his net has a hole in it (it doesn't) and I've been poking rocks this whole hour with no luck...the funny thing is, I've been poking rocks for so long and never even knew of such thing!...what is it with villagers asking for the impossible?

oh and here's another one, I find it (logically) rude that my villagers give or sell me stuff that I gave them as presents! not only that, when they decide to sell they would ask for 1600+ for a damn cherry (happened twice)? seriously? XD

another one! Chief (yes him again XP) came to my house and on the next day sent me a letter calling it empty! even though my fully upgraded house had 4 fully furnished rooms out of 6! not empty... :/

and here's one that really annoyed me, Skye (then bruce) invited me to her house at a specific hour, and when I came she was not home! and when I talked to her she acted as if it never happened! :C

it's funny but kinda annoying when you try your best as a mayor to fulfill their needs and make them happy but sometimes they're too much! XD

aaaaand I still can't find that centipede! I give up.....

Villagers do this all the time, it might be random or based on whatever you have at least a small chance of catching in your town or on the island. I don't think it affects your friendship level if you say yes and don't find what they've requested, it's just that doing that increases your friendship. When you say yes, they already do that noise that pops up when you've made them happy, and then they do it again when you deliver them the bug or fish they asked for.

My theory are that each villager has a small inventory-like memory attached, for items they can't wear put in their homes (like fruit) or items they haven't decided to sell in Re-Tail, and when you get items from them, there's a random chance that it's one of those. I believe that the price they ask for starts at the highest price they'd pay for it in Re-Tail. You don't have to say yes, you can say no and they'll either stop trying to sell you that item or they'll bargain with you (if you keep bargaining, sometimes they just give it to you for free).

Did you have missing furniture in any of the rooms? Did you have stuff on your walls? Sometimes they consider it empty if you have rooms that don't have furniture you can sit or sleep on or if you don't have objects hanging on the walls. If you talk to them while they're visiting, they'll make comments along those lines when that's the case.

Did you time travel on that day? Sometimes when you time travel within a specific day, the visits you've set up with them are reset and it's like you never made plans. It's also happened to me that a villager didn't show up and when I saw him again, he said that he forgot and said he was sorry.

I know what you mean though, sometimes it's annoying, but mostly I just find it funny that the villagers are so eccentric.

Imagine how confusing it was for me when a villager asked me to bring them "a walking stick" in my first few days of playing. I'd never heard of this insect (sounds like what we'd call 'stick insects') and it's taken me weeks to even see them so I was baffled, thinking surely she can't mean an actual walking stick?!

hmm I thought that sound that plays when they ask you something mean that you've got a mission/job :o

ya I actually did notice that they have an inventory attached because whenever they replace a furniture they have with something else they end up giving you the old one, I find it kinda cute :P
and I had no idea they bargain! gotta try it :P

I have 2 empty/bare rooms, but the other 4 are fully furnished with a full furniture set/series, silly villagers :P

ya I time travel all the time, but it doesn't always affect this mission because I would time travel and find them in their houses, was it a coincidence? :o

I also don't like how they forget about the task after a day
in previous games, the option to give them something they asked for would stay for some days giving you time to get something if it was difficult to find :/

I hate villagers trolling me! When chief used to live in my town he followed me literally everywhere, except when my gates were open. Sometimes I just opened my gates to do away with him.

actually I believe this depends on the task, chief once asked me to get signatures from another town (which I couldn't so), on the next day he said that I took too long and that he doesn't need it anymore because he did it himself :/

I personally don't mind villagers following me but I HATE it when I have to look for them everywhere and NEVER find them! Lobo and Skye are masters of hiding in my town XD

I've always heard that it's the sound that plays when you make them happy. It makes sense, because after you complete their requests or when they visit you (or you visit them), they make that sound again.

I don't know if it's all personality types or if they always bargain. I've had some villagers simply accept it when I said no, while others have bargained and then given the item to me for free if I kept saying no. Either way, I don't think it affects your friendship if you say no (at least, not in a significant way you can't make up for) but if it worries you, you can always talk to them when your inventory is full of items like flowers and tools.

They still count that, along with rooms with bare walls or rooms without chairs or beds (they say that those weird them out). It's probably just random and a way to help players who don't have a lot of bells by giving them items for their homes.

It doesn't always affect it, but in my experience, it does affect it when you time travel backwards and forward on the same day. Whenever I've time travelled up to that hour it's never been an issue, but it's happened when I kept changing the clock before visiting them.
