Villager won't leave, help required

hello all,
My boyfriend has been trying to get rodney out of his town for a while and 2 times now he has been set to leave and then on the day he is meant to have left he has stayed in the town and its like he was never meant to move. He was meant to move today and was in boxes yesterday, btu today we booted up the game and he is still there. was just wondering if anyone could help figure out the reason why and help me come up with a solution so my boyfriend can get him out of his town once and for all. He does time travel a lot, but usually only a day forward at a time, and i was wondering if that could affect it at all.

well he continued playing as normal and he's gone a few days ahead and rodney has left now?? so i'm just assuming it was a glitch in the system. i don't understand how it happened the first time so still curious about everyone's ideas on why it's happened or if it's ever happened to you.

I've a villager move in naturally,( from the void) unbox and rebox the very next day, by them selves, it was hopper, I believe.I
I think I've had a similar experience with some red villager, I think they change their minds and change them again.

Did your boyfriend time travel using the 3DS clock and not the in-game clock?That could be why Rodney was still in town and why he left when your boyfriend continued playing as normal.

he uses the in game clock and time travels multiple times a day, goes in to water his plants and talk to his faves. he's trying to breed hybrids which is why he time travels a lot.
