Sorry if this is in the wrong area! Please direct me to the correct one if so.

A few weeks ago, someone adopted Fang from me for 9 million bells - they paid, and I escorted them to adopt him. When they said all was fine, I ended the session, and continued playing/TTing as normal, meaning Fang moved out. However, he never turned up in their town, and they were very assertive in that there was no reason why he shouldn't have (they had less than 10 villagers; no one moved in in place of him; they had not had him previously).

I'm just wondering if this has happened to anyone else before? I can't see how it would be my fault, but...? (Sidenote: it wasn't anyone here, and I'm not looking to validate myself or anything, their bells have been returned - just curious!)

Wow, that's pretty weird. I've never had it happen to me before, but maybe it was some kind of glitch perhaps? Or maybe the person you were trading with did have Fang, but was trying to scam you and get their bells back too.

Right?! I think it must be a glitch, since I suspected the same thing and asked to check their town - no Fang. So weird.

I've given away close to 300 villagers and nobody has ever told me that the villager I just gave them never appeared in their town. There's two things I always make sure happens after an adoption:Make sure the game saves properly after the adopting person leaves your town and also check the house of the villager that's been adopted and make sure it says "moved out".If both of those things are ok then the problem is not on your end.Either they're scamming you or they asked another villager to move in before Fang's plot appeared in their town.Another issue I've read about is that having a villager in boxes can also prevent a new villager from moving in but I'm not sure if that's been proven or not.

When you checked their town, did you check the map or did you actually walk around the town? If they were scamming you, if you only looked at the map, Fang could have plotted already (plots don't show up on the map, only the finished house does).

Otherwise, I think it's a glitch.

Hmm. If I was on the other end, I wouldn't have asked for my money back. It was nice of you to do that, but now you're out 9 mill and a villager that you should have been able to make bells from.

that happened to be a couple of times actually, im not sure what caused it though. as hypno mentioned, its most likely just a glitch

We went through everything you mentioned, and it all seemed fine! I think it must be an unfortunate glitch, or I've been cleverly scammed. Thanks for the tip on the boxes rumour, though, I hadn't heard that one.

I had a good look around, and there were no plots to be seen! Agreed on the glitch.

Ahh, it was no big deal at the end of the day! They were nice enough, and otherwise they would've been out of 9 million bells for nothing. Thanks, though :)

Oh, really? Thanks for letting me know, I'm glad I'm not the only clueless one. I think it must be, sucks though :(

Hey, just wondering, do you know if the buyer previously had Fang but he moved? If that's the case then maybe they haven't gone through 16 villagers.

This seems to be the only logical conclusion. If you checked their town pretty thoroughly and there was no plot, the only reason fang wouldn't show up in their town would be because they hadn't gone through the 16 villager cycle from previously owning him. However, your "customer" would have noted this when they came to your town to adopt fang. You don't even get the option to invite the villager into your town if it's not possible. Because they claimed everything was all set, they were either lying and planned this scam out from the very beginning, or some strange glitch did happen. In order to rule this out, you can check Fang's house after the customer leaves your town. It'll say if he's moved out to another town or not.
