Villager reset trick glitch?

Ive used two different methods neither of which work, heres how I did them
Method one
Set time to 5:59am the day a villager is moving in on my mayor
Save before 6am
Make a new character, talk to rover like usual
Find plot
Exit
Make new character
Find no plot at all?

Method two
Start game at 5am on mayor
Save
Go to 3ds clock and forward an hour (so it is 6am when I make the new character)
Make ne character, talk to rover like usual
Find a plot
Exit game
Make new character again
Find no plot?

Why is this and what am I doing wrong

Hmm, sounds like the right steps and everything, you're sure the clock isn't somehow resetting or something? Cause that is really odd.

I don't see how that could happen :/ I don't know why it wont work

This has happened to me numerous times. It doesn't happen when I adopt a villager. It would only happen when I knew the game was going to move a random villager in. It's a bit frustrating and I would end up just starting up my mayor and hope for the best. I don't have the patience to plot reset for hours.

This happened to me yesterday. Sometimes when I know the game is trying to move in plots sometimes there no plot even if there was a few resets back. If there isn't one, I usually go ahead and save so that gives me another day to either adopt somebody or prep for plotting.

Yes, I think that would be the best way to do it. I hope it works out for you. Plot resetting can be a bit stressful.

If you're talking about a random move-in (as opposed to a villager you got from someone else or the campsite), then this is normal; it can take up to seven in-game days for a new villager to plot. So after a week, a villager is guaranteed to place a plot, but any day before that there's only a chance someone will (not sure of the exact chances). This is the reason that you'll sometimes find a plot and sometimes won't when you're loading up different new characters. So you weren't doing anything wrong.

But my problem is that I think there are no plots so I go on my mayor and then a plot shows up! I don't understand why I can't find any plots on the other character but on my mayor I can
