If a villager i like tells me to deliver a gift to a villager i'm trying to ignore to get them to move out, does initiating that trade sequence reset my progress towards ignoring that villager?

Also, what does the campsite do, if i were to build one?

To answer your first question, yes.
That counts as interacting.
Though I've had better luck personally in just talking to everyone and getting villagers I don't like to move out.
To each their own, though. :)

As for the campsite, it will allow you a tenth villager slot.
In addition, random villagers will occasionally camp there and you can play mini games to convince them to move to your town if you have room.

You actually have to talk to the villager you're trying to ignore in order to reset the whole process - I haven't tried it, but simply accepting a task from another villager shouldn't do anything as long as you don't follow through with the job. You're better off not accepting the job in the first place however.

As for the campsite, it lets animals come and visit your town - every day, you have a chance at having someone camp at the site, indicated by an orange tent. If you have less than 9 villagers, you can actually ask these campers to move into your town.

Just a heads up, I think people have found that ignoring your villagers actually decrease their chances of moving out. When they ping you to move they'll probably end up deciding to stay no matter what you choose, I think. So if you want that villager to move out, I'd at least talk with them a little bit.

Regarding the campsite, the mini games you can play with the campers also give you a chance to win campsite exclusive furniture.

ignoring them is not a mechanic in this game it doesn't do anything except if you don't talk to them a certain amount of time (at all) then they'll say something when u do but ignoring doesn't do anything. if you want a villager to move out, it's random. if a villager likes you, they're more likely to ping you tho, and that might include moving, but i don't think there's any for sure way of doing that

the campsite does the mini games (and if there's a lazy villager you can exploit this for a LOT of bells with expensive beetles) and you can invite campers to your town, but it does not unlock the tenth villager slot (you can have ten even without a campsite) and you can invite campers if your town is not full that is less than 10, not less than 9

thanks for all the help, everyone. I'm going to stop ignoring sprinkle and maybe if i do some stuff for her she'll ask to move.

ignoring's worked for me, but that was a long time ago (maybe there was a change in the WA update with that?) and i did a tiny bit of time travel so i could be wrong about that stuff.
i'm not sure it matters whether or not your deliver the present? it might raise your friendship a little if you do but that's it. if you wanna be mean you could steal it and no one will ever know.

I read that ignoring them doesn't work. If it did, my faves wouldn't move and my most hated (CHOPS!!!!) wouldn't refuse to move. Seriously, I want him to leave so bad and I'm trying everything and it won't work.

I've had a couple instances where ignoring someone with my mayor didn't work, especially after talking to the villager I want out more than once, but making a new character and completely ignoring the unwanted villager after I introduced the new character to them caused that villager to finally move out. I'd suggest giving that a try.
