Villager Plot Spacing

I was curious about something, is it possible for a villager to be one tile space from a cliff/river?

I think I have villagers who are either 1 tile or two tiles away from each other.

Yes, it's possible. Daisy has her house near my cliff, it might be 2 spaces away but i still think it is possible.

My Fang has his house placed 1 space away from the cliff. Cliff is facing the left side of his house instead of the front though if that counts?

No, they have to be at least 2 spaces away from the bottom of the map. I've had a couple of villagers do this before.

Oh I'm dumb. I thought this thread was about how close villagers houses can be next to each other. I misread and now I'm embarrassed..
