Villager plot reset question.

Could anyone direct me to, or tell me in detail how the plot reset trick works in order to get a villager of your choice? I've seen a lot of threads about plot resetting for location but I'm really sketchy on the details about resetting for a certain kind of villager. I know that it has something to do with personality... but if anyone can show me a guide, that would be so appreciated!

What do I do when I know a villager is going to move in the next day... Do I load on my mayor to that next day at 5:55 am, wait, then go in on a new character? I seem to keep screwing this part up.

if you don't care about TTing affecting your other games (ie: tomodachi life, etc)
you can change the 3DS system clock to anytime after 6AM
and load up the game with a new character
