Villager Originality-Am I ridiculous?

I don't care, but I would probably be a little wary of trading with anyone who "demands" anything lol :P

Well it maybe isn't the best word choice. I don't say "IT MUST BE ORIGINAL AND I WANT IT NOW" or anything. Being wary of someone with a 100% rating is sillier than my quirk about my squirrels being original :p

I'm pretty much the same way. I feel like it's the worst when they have something stupid as their catchphrase or are wearing one of the default patterns, though. Everything else I can pretty much tolerate. As long as their house isn't completely filled with fish and bugs, I'm good. Though I love how organized their original houses are so once they move in I always decline their requests for trades and new furniture and it makes me feel guilty :T

Ratings mean nothing to me since everyone is nice when they want something lol.

There are numerous reasons why someone would want their villager to be original. It's all personal preference. When I cycle, I try to keep the villager as original as possible (in most cases they remain original unless I go several days without cycling, in which case they end up wearing one of those shirts made by someone from anytown lol). I've only done a few cycling trades and have found that more than 75% of those I traded with wanted original villagers (intact shirts, furniture, etc), while the rest didn't mind it as long as they were able to get the villager.

I picked up a void once in my first game, it was Peck, and it took him AGES to forget about his old town (don't even know where he came from to be honest lol). I didn't mind it though as he mentioned it less and less and I rarely spoke to him anyways >.> too busy running around trying to create hybrid flowers. I have gotten Lolly, Rosie and Ankha (all were original) but I wouldn't mind if they weren't. I haven't done any research on what their homes originally come with so I'm not bothered if there's something off when they get to my town. I'm pretty sure I've been guilty of handing a villager of mine a fish or a bug when they asked me to (without knowing this would cause them to display it in their home and maybe sell or giveaway a piece of their furniture).

It would bother me just a teeny bit if I got a dreamie and their home was filled with just fish and bugs though, unless of course I already knew that before then trade, then I'd just gift them furniture to replace all the stuff lol. There was one time when Groucho sent me something I liked him having in his home, I ended up gifting it back to him via a letter and he had it back up in his home xD.

If someone wants original villagers, they have the right to ask for it. Just like if someone is selling unoriginals, they have the right to do that as well. Not one is better than the other in my opinion, afterall, the besides the nature of the villager, you do end up creating them to be "unique" if you change them (clothes, furniture, catch phrases,). My Felicity says "I AM BATMAN" when she sees me :D

I don't care if they're original. I just care if they're in my town :)

If that's how you like your villagers that's your business lol everyone plays differently. I imagine it probably takes a bit of work to preserve total originality - especially since they have that tendency to swap clothes and catchphrases from each other.

I can understand it, though I mostly only care about a house not being filled with fish/bugs or being totally empty. Otherwise I could care less about clothes and stuff since it can all be changed. I actually adopted a villager recently (Bam) who had on a better shirt than his original. Worked for me. I also got Static with a custom shirt on and I really like it.

While it's not my personal preference, I've seen lots of people ask for original villagers only so I don't think it's strange or unreasonable.

Yes Andrew, you are ridiculous.... of course you aren't ridiculous! Wanting villagers in their original state is probably the preferred method of adoption for most traders. While I will happily accept a non-original villager, even I secretly prefer an original in some circumstances. And in others, I appreciate a well-loved villager. When I adopted my deer from TheGreatBrain's village of Petal's, I LOVED that they all came from the same town and therefore had a connective link among them. Didn't matter to me that they weren't original. I enjoy adopting from friends villages because I know they are coming from a happy place. If pressed, I would say that the only thing that bothers me are the generic shirts unoriginal villagers come with. And currently, I have a villager that came from a town named 'butt' and a mayor named 'd'. Not my favorite when he talks about it, but I suppose in the abtract, it is pretty hilarious. But wanting villagers in an original state is perfectly understandable. You want to make a life with them in your village and have them be yours. Nothing wrong with that!

I relate to you adopting from the same town. Five or so of my squirrels (I think all of the males except Marshal) came from the same cycler. They just get moving in randomly haha. It's cool knowing they were in the same town.

I really agree with this.
I give my villagers any clothes or furniture they want so their houses end up REAL wacky.
I do like them to atleast have a CD player in their house though.
