So if you have more than one character, and a villager is moving away, will they tell ALL of the characters and will all of the characters have a chance to let them stay? Or will they just notify the mayor's character? Do some villagers ping for some characters and don't ping for others?

I'm making a secondary character in about a half hour and I just want to take precautions since I probably won't play on the character each day. I don't know if I will somehow mess things up and cause a dreamie to move out or what. v.v'

They only will notify the characters they talked to. For example I have Zell. Zell knows my mayor and my 3rd character but I never introduced my 2nd character to him. He will ping my mayor character and my 3rd character but he will not ping my 2nd character.

Let's say Fang wants to move and I've spoken to him on both my characters.

If I tell him to stay on one character, does that mean I have to tell him to stay on all of my characters? Or will one be enough? I feel like it'd be a hassle to have to switch between characters in order to convince a character to stay.

I'd probably just log on to the second character for about 10 or so minutes per day in order to place paths and talk to the villagers I want to stay... The rest of the villagers I'd probably ignore after introducing myself to em.

Pinging to move away and ping to stay only need to happen once. If he said he was going to stay on your 2nd character that means he will stay. He won't ping you again on your mayor character. :D

Oh, okay! So there's no way I can miss out on a character pinging... That's good.

One more random question that has nothing to do with my main question, but I have to know, because I do this a lot:

Can characters "dust away" the patterns on the floor that they didn't put down? So if I am on my secondary character, can I remove pathways that my main character put down?

sadly, yes.

2nd characters can dust away the patterns your main character put down and vice versa.

uuuHGHH why why why why I am going to wreak havoc.

Thanks for the answers, guys! I think I'm going to go through this time and actually create my secondary character~

Have fun! I have 3 characters already, it's not so bad. I really wish they'd just give us more pattern space on our main character

I wish that the patterns on the ground didn't change when you replaced them in your main pattern space. As long as you have it saved with Mable, they should stay the same. It'd make life a lot more easier. v.v

I like that they change tho. I change path patterns a lot and I'm glad I don't have to put them down all over again once I change em.
The patterns stay the same however if you use it on ur flag or on a museum poster
