Villager moving out - now what?

I’ve just had Kidd request to move out and decided to let him go. I was just wondering whether I’d get a chance to invite a villager to fill his spot or is it random (this is the first time I’ve had a villager move out without being forced out by amiibo!)

I did go on a nook miles tour after he asked but there was no villager on it - will there be villagers on tours tomorrow or do I just have to wait for a random to move in and hope I like them?

When he moves out and his plot is empty you'll find villagers on mystery islands and you'll be able to invite one of them before a random moves in
