Catching beetles on the island~ I had a fully expanded house and 9mil about 4 weeks into the game.

Also, turnips. Find someone with a high turnip buying price in their town on the same day you have Joan in your town (or vice versa). Offer to let them travel back and forth with you to buy/sell turnips and profit together.
