I've been playing the game for months now and I have YET to see two villagers chatting, not even once! just the occasional "silent" chat thing that ends with an emotion (singing/ sadness...etc), I kinda got fed up so I trapped three villagers together by digging holes around them but the closest thing I got was them shrugging at each other like come on!

what am I doing wrong? :o

Huh? If you see them standing near each other with emotions they are chatting. You go up and talk to them while they are doing this. Sometimes if you just stand outside near some villagers they'll start chatting.

It is very rare that they talk to each other. Unlike in Animal Crossing Wild Word, they had conversations all the time.

It's rare?
I've found it to be less common compared to WW, yes, but my characters chat with one another all the time. Mostly during the morning/afternoon and only occasionally in the evenings and rarely at night.

Maybe I just play too much? xD

MAN! I hadn't seen a convo go on between two villagers in about two years.
And several weeks ago I saw the emotes pop over canberra & Roscoe's head.
I freaking flew in so fast I fell into them like meteorite and pushed them apart and missed the whole darn thing. OTL

When you see the silent chatting with the emotions going on, you need to run up and talk to them to be able to listen in on the conversation :)

I remember one time, Mira was having a conversation to Margie about peeling onions and that made Margie cry.

It's completely random and rare compared to past games.

But the best strategy is get like 2 villagers to a bridge, (Hopefully don't push them for long or else they'll get mad. :c) and hopefully stay there until they talk to each other.

In my main town it happens a lot. The other night I got ping and two villagers were standing by us.
Finished and the light bulb went off. Sometime the conversation can get you in trouble.
Iggly asked for the answer to a Math question and I helped him out. Miss Lolly was very angry.
