Villager Birthdays

If you give a villager a birthday present will they always wear it (if it is clothing) or place it in their house (if it's furniture)?

Marina's birthday is coming up and I wanted to buy her a piece of Mermaid furniture or a cute dress (expensive yeesh) and I don't want to waste my money if she won't use it.

I don't know if it's guaranteed if they'll use/wear it, but even if they do, they don't keep it forever. I often find my birthday gifts up for sale in Re-tail like a week after a villager's birthday.

Well there's an easy solution to them selling their items in Re-tail. Put ridiculous items up for the max selling price, lol

I've had villagers not wear clothing even if it's their favorite style and color. I've never had any issues with them putting furniture out (I've only ever given presents of the villagers' favorite style/color, though, so I don't know if they would put any furniture item out, especially if the item has their disliked style). If they don't wear the clothing, they also always put it in their house.

Villagers can't wear dresses either, so you'd be better off getting Marina furniture anyway.

Ah, okay! Just making sure. Either way, she's not guaranteed to wear it. Maybe you can save beforehand and reset if she doesn't wear it to see if it changes, but that might be more trouble than it's worth.

In my experience, it doesn't really matter if they "like" it or not. I've always given villagers birthday presents with their favorite style and color, and they don't always wear the clothes, but they've always set out the furniture (and if they don't wear the clothes, they use them to decorate the house). If they don't switch into the new clothes immediately after you give it to them, they'll just decorate with them, I've found.

I wasn't saying she'd wear it, I'm just saying this is a list of things she likes if it will help you pick something that will make her happy. Villagers are very finicky with what they wear.

I guess I should clarify that it's worthwhile to give them a present that they're guaranteed to like, at least. They're happier, and they will send you a nicer thank you letter. It's just that it doesn't guarantee for them to wear the item if it's clothing. Because for whatever reason they really like decorating their house with shirts.

Today is Bluebear's birthday, I have her a shirt and she put it on right away. I bet she will end up in a melon shirt like most my villagers thanks to Fuchsia anyway
