You can only invite one villager at a time, so the other ones will not come to your town. You must invite one villager, then wait until their house plot is in your town before you invite another villager.
^^^ what mothership said- whoever moved in is the only one who will move in now. if you want the other three villagers still, you'll need to re-adopt :\
The answer to that question you linked to is wrong. in a new town, villagers generated by the game will automatically move in every other day until you have 9 villagers. Invited villagers are chosen by you and must be invited one at a time. Once an invited villager has a plot set up in your town you can go ahead and invite another villager.
If you want to invite a bunch of villagers in one day in real life, you'll need to adopt, time travel past 6 am on the next day and check if their plot is up. If so, save and go adopt the second one, etc. That way you can adopt a bunch in one day IRL, which will count for as many in game days as the number of villagers you take. You'll end up a few days in the future, though.
