Hi there, sorry if this is a typically annoying post but I'm having a really annoying time trying to get my hibiscus growing.

I decided to line my paths with 'walls' of bushes, which worked perfectly on one side, but not the other for a reason I can't think of.

I know that bushes can only be planted next to other bushes or trees, and that the connected line should be no longer than 12 bushes long, which mine does not exceed.

I've took a photo to show what the issue is:

Sorry for the low quality. The gaps between the yellow bushes are where my two red ones keep mysteriously dying.

Any advice would be fantasic.

I had a similar problem with planting trees/bushes in some certain spots under the same circumstances you're under. The problem might be the existence of what they call "dead spots," where some certain units in your town will refuse to grow anything other than flowers regardless of the situation. I know it stinks, especially considering that you're using them as a path liner, but it happens. :(

Darn. I've been trying about 3 weeks to get it to work, but at least I know now. Thanks for your help!

They may not be dead spots (I've never encountered a dead spot in my town, and don't believe they actually exist). Sometimes bushes/trees won't grow if there's too many others in the area. It might help to plant them one by one instead of all at once, that way, they each have time to grow without being smothered. Here's a guide that explains it better :)

Thank you all for your help! I guess I should go to the island and start raking in the medals so I can start from scratch hahaha.

Good luck! And you don't have to start completely from scratch, just take out the ones on the right, starting from the first dead one all the way to the top. Then replant those one by one. Unless that's what you were planning to do. :p

Interesting. I've never heard of that before. Well, thanks for showing it, I'll keep this in mind.

When this happens to me, it's because of too many trees growing in the "acre"
I had the exact same issue and would get immensely frustrated when I saw they weren't growing. I had cut down a few trees that were nearby and suddenly they decided that they could indeed grow. Plants seem to be very fickle about where and how many are near each other. So before you remove your work, try removing a few trees first :)

Plant the back row one day.

Plant the row in front of the back row the second day.

Follow the sequence.

Just like with trees.
