I started up a new town, and thanks to the new ability to place tiles on spots you don't want villagers to move in, I've been setting up the town so I'll have nice perfect rows. Two horizontal and two vertical.

My question is, when you have a line of vertical villager houses, how many spaces are needed in between the house and the one in front of it?

Horizontally placed, I (believe) it's only one square in between, but isn't it more for vertically placed houses, because you have to account for the door?

I haven't tested that myself. I'm going by what I've heard here and on Reddit. It's also possible that the rules are different for your house than for other villagers' houses.

Are you sure it's two horizontally? I could have sworn I've had a villager exactly one square from my house.

You can't place a PWP only one space away from your house, so I don't know how a villager could plot there. I've never seen any legitimate proof of a villager plotting that close, so I think you didn't remember correctly.

It's entirely possible. Next time I play on that particular town I'll check. I could be wrong.

I have two of my villager houses built one space from the river, but if they're beside each other horizontally, I set them up to have two spaces in between. I also had them three spaces in between vertically.

I'm pretty sure it's at least two tiles apart. Horizontally.

Think of it as if there's like 1 tile of invisible bubble space around each buildings or pwps.. so for 3x3 villager plot size, there's 1 tile of space around it so it's actually taking up 5x5.. River is not a building so the house can be 1 tile away from landscape stuff like river or cliff or trees/bushes..

In my new town, after the update, i have a row of villager houses and they are all 2 tiles apart, horizontally.

I've set up my second town in a similar way, I left 3 or 4 spaces so I could make a path between the rows and for optimal visibility
