I have a few burning questions that I hope you can share some light on (I've been playing since april but still consider myself quite novice regarding the online aspect).

- If I attend someone else's villager's birthday party (via dodo code), will that visit count as +1 for me?

- If I have someone visiting (via dodo code), what can I do to protect parts of my island but let me access that part if I need it?
Example: I look to create some sort of fail-safe in front of my airport, where the visitor is fenced in until X requirement has been met.
I think I read somewhere that I can dig up and plant bushes/shrubs at will even with friends over?
Will digging multiple holes work (assuming that I can cover those holes again once X requirement has been met edit: and assuming that the person visiting can't cover those holes themselves)?
You certainly can't remove fences or pickup placed items, I accidentally locked myself in at one point.

- When I water flowers, am I technically watering the flower or the ground below the flower?
Example: I look to get the "friend watering bonus" sometimes - if some flowers are watered by 5 friends and I dig up and re-plant those flowers elsewhere, do they still have the bonus?

- Black roses and gold watering can.
Now I can't prove this but I swear to god that this has happened on more than one occation:
Day 1 - I watered black roses with gold watering can.
Day 2 - some of the black roses produced gold roses, some did not. I accidentally forgot to water my black roses with a gold watering can on day 2. However, I'm certain that they were watered either with non-gold watering can or rain on day 2.
Day 3 - some of the black roses produced gold roses! How is that possible? Does the game remember that you watered with gold watering can more than 1 day in the past?

Thanks in advance :)

The bushes would work but holes won't because anyone can cover them by using Y the button or leap over them. If you have anyone on your friend's list as Best friends, they can dig up bushes, flowers and trees. You can just use fences and leave one opening, where you block it, or place a stool between the area.

You're watering the flowers, because the effect is the flowers dripping with water. If you relocated your flowers that were watered by 5 people, they will lose their bonus.

Rain/Snow might have the same effects as a golden watering can. I put some black roses at the back of my island and I don't water them. It snowed and now there's a golden rose.

I didn't really understand the first question and also it's super late so my brain isn't thinking straight, lol.

Thanks for the quick reply :)

Q1:
If one of your NPC villagers are having a birthday party and you invite me over to your island, can I attend that birthday party and get a +1 in my "birthday nook miles achievement"?

I didn't know of the rain being potentially able to produce gold roses - that's excellent information.

I understand your answer about the flowers but then technically/semantically; if I water flowers, then relocate them, they are not watered anymore? They should be considered equally as watered if I move them 5 times over if you ask me.
So wouldn't it be more correct to say (again, not trying to discuss semantics, just trying to understand) that it is the ground or location that you're watering rather than the flower?

I'm not sure for the first question. I haven't been on someone's island when one of their villagers were having a birthday.

Well, then I don't know what gets watered technically, but the friendship water bestowed upon the flowers loses the effect if they are moved. They lose their big golden sparkles.

ok so about the gold roses:
if you watered a black rose with a gold watering can, it will have a flag set in code that says "can produce a gold rose"
this flag will be removed only when you either move the rose, or when it produces one. you can water it by any other means at this point. as long is it is watered by a gold can, and it hasn't produced a gold rose yet, it has the ability to produce one simply by getting watered.
I didn't know that some rain/snow could do that too! interesting :)

for watering: you water both. if you water a spot and then plant a flower, the flower will be considered watered (though not if you replant it). if you water a flower and then move it somewhere, the flower is still considered watered. if either the ground or the flower is watered, the flower can reproduce.

Also, I think that you will get a birthday achievement for visiting a birthday villager at a friend
Post automatically merged:

oh and about the watering:
if you care about tool durability. if you water a spot, then plant an unwatered flower there, then water the spot again, it will cost durability on your watering can. same for the other way. if you plant a watered flower on unwatered ground and use a can on it, it costs durability

Since other players (unless best-friended) cannot use shovels, if you want to block areas off, use fences, and then leave an opening with a tree/bush in it. You just dig it up and plant it again to move between the 2 areas.

Thank you all, I now have a more combined knowledge of the game :)

I actually have one more question, regarding flower trampling.

If someone sprints, thereby trampling and destroying flowers, what "stage" do the flowers go to? 1, 2 or 3?
If it's 3 (meaning that it will be fully grown again tomorrow... stage 4), will it still remember being watered or is the watering ruined?
