Valve has just launched the opt-in-beta with a streaming platform integrated into Steam. Noted features include being able to limit your stream to your Steam friends (sub-settings for invite/request/always), and broadcasts automatically starting when you are a) playing a game with broadcasting on b) someone starting to watch your game (the way this is phrased it sounds like you will not be uploading video signal when no one is watching but that may simply be misleading). They end when you exit the game or when you end the broadcast from the control panel.

It doesn't sound like this is intended to take over Twitch as a way of streaming to large audiences, rather it's an easy way to stream to your friends that doesnt require setting up OBS and a twitch account.

Also it's not just Steam games you can stream, you can also stream your desktop too...although I don't think that's a good idea lmao.

Also watching people get hype over Barbie's Dreamhouse party was the best.

I used it to stream with my friends. I like it because I see it more for people who just wanna broadcast to a few friends and not like a large audience. It crashes sometimes but hey it's a beta

Sometimes it can lower the framerate in games too.

Like I was playing Sonic Generations at a smooth 60FPS, someone joins and it lowers to 25-30 FPS
