Using Star Fragments Outdoors

I was hoping to use star fragments as outdoor decorations in a certain part of my island. Does anyone know if they despawn after a certain length of time, or will they remain in place until picked up? Thank you!

That’s a relief. I was about to reply that I don’t know if the actual star fragment disappear when put outside and was willing to sacrifice one for the test purposes. There is a bit bigger alternative for it if you craft an item from the fragments called Star Light which I assume is a lamp. You need 5 star fragments and the DIY for the item in order to craft it.

Thank you both for your help! It's nice to know that the fragments won't just up and leave. And someday I definitely want that lamp for this part of my island! I just don't have it yet!

I have a star-gazing area that has star fragments and they have not disappeared for me, I also recently got a 5-star town status so it doesn't look like it affects that either. I think it works similar to the seashells in that they don’t affect ratings when dropped as they spawn on the floor just like the fragments do.

@Jesteroo I have the recipe for the Nova light -- if you have the materials (5 star frags) I would be happy to make it for you. :- )

With the Nova light recipe from Celeste, yes. It looks like the picture I posted above and uses 5 star fragments

i did this for a while bc it's so cute, but i've become less trusting of strangers i let into my island nowadays, so i stopped decorating w star frags ;;
