Using custom design for paths

I know that when you unlock teraforming you also get the option to lay down different paths (like stone, wood, and sand) and that you can also lay down your own designs as custom paths or ontop of paths you made.

I read somewhere that when you put down custom designs on top of a pre-made path, that when you walk over your custom design path it will make the sound of the path underneath it (like a stone sound if you were walking on stone).

When I put down a custom design, the sounds of the premade paths disappear and instead have a muffled walking sound (is the best way I can describe it).

Is this how it works and what I read is wrong, or am I somehow doing something wrong when placing custom designs?

Yeah, that's how it is currently. We are cursed walking on yoga mats for custom design paths.

I REALLY wish we could choose a sound for our custom paths. If we could, I might just use them. But as is, they aren’t worth the design space for me.

Custom designs muffling the sounds of the terraformed paths is the reason why I don't completely cover them over. I even considered adding pavements to my 3-wide path but that would mean only the centre part would make the satisfying clack clack noise. I hope in future updates they allow the sound to come through! I need the clack clack

yeah it really is unfortunate that we have to sacrifice the sound of walking on different types of paths if we want to use custom designs. it doesn't matter if you place the custom design on top of an in game path, the sound will still be muffled. im on board with hoping we can get an update that includes letting the sounds to come through when we walk on top of custom designs. tired of hearing carpet when im walking on wood/log designs or stepping stones lmao.

I'm still hoping that they'll let us choose the sound of our custom paths in the future update, my island is literally covered in custom paths that it hurts that it only produces muffled sounds can't wait for the time my custom stone paths actually sounds like I'm steppong on stones! For now I'll just have to deal with it...

Didn’t semi-transparent designs used to have the noise of the surface below them? Did they remove that with an update?

I thought this was the case too. But semi-transparent didn't keep the sound. It colors over the path under it and takes the texture of the path.

I think custom design paths are better than the ones that are currently available - there’s so many of them, and there’s a lot of good ones that it’s hard to choose what to use since we only have so few custom design slots. What I don’t like about them is that they don’t make the sounds that the Nintendo paths make! It’s one of the reasons why it’s taking me so long to actually commit to using a custom design path no matter how good. I just hope they add the path sounds to custom designs in future updates

I'd forgive the lack of sound if they'd just make the custom paths immovable unless we're in designer mode.
