Unlocking PWPs?

Hi all,

I've only just started my new town, so of course, everything is lost! Bells, all the furniture and items that I had catalogued, unorderables, hybrids, etc., etc. And, of course! public works projects.

I'm not exactly new to New Leaf, but I've always just gone in blind when it came to landscaping/ themes and all that. I didn't really know it even existed until I came onto the forums. I'm just wondering if there's a way to sort of fast-track unlocking more PWPs or if I'm just going to have to grit my teeth and cope with doing it the way I did it before where I just waited for a random villager to ping me and hoped it was the one that I was after.

Is there anything I can do about this? Help!

Have you heard of the diving trick? Basically what you do is fill your pockets with items that villagers can't buy (such as flowers,shells etc) and swim out into the sea and wait for 5 minutes. Then go back and one villager will ping you! Most the time it's stupid things like 'what's your favourite flower' but it's a guaranteed way of getting 1 pwp a day if you stick to it. It works because when you're out of their eyeline their pings reset.
If you're looking for a specific pwp, then trap the personality types with four holes around them so you can easily find them to get pinged
