Unlocking Opposite Gender Hairstyles Question

I know that you must get 15 haircuts to unlock a haircut of the opposite gender, but does it have to be done in your own town? I just restarted my town yesterday and my favorite haircut is a male haircut and I am female. I have another copy and want to try visiting my old town's Shampoodle and unlocking it in that town but I'm not sure if it will work. Help?

yeah i think you have to be in your own town to unlock the hairstyles

Yes, it has to be your own town, other towns don't count a la Fortune Shop, Golden Axe/Shovel, and others.
