Ugh, now I'm almost too paranoid to play

I was just playing NL and everything was going fine. I wasn't really accomplishing much but just tending to everything. At one point I went to the island and played a mini-game because I felt like earning some medals and then I made my merry way back to town to sell something at Re-Tail. I was typing in the price for it when suddenly both screens went black and the bottom one had a message that said the SD card had been removed and to go back to the home screen.

It was strange because my SD card was snug and secure in its place but it gave me a heart attack because I thought my town would be corrupted and lost forever. So I booted the game back up expecting it to be gone. Luckily it was still there but now I'm honestly terrified to play in case it happens again during a load screen.

This is what I get for being impatient and downloading it digitally the night it released instead just buying the physical game the next day!

Sorry. I just needed to get that out there because I was really devastated for a moment and now I'm just scared to play. With how many hours I've put into my town I don't know if I'd have it in me to do it all over again if my town were to ever corrupt.

Celadon has started acting similarly. Once, it went black and said an error occurred. Yesterday, when I tried to launch the town, the home screen said an error occurred again and it then said no cartilage was in the 3DS. The town hasn't corrupted, it has been fine otherwise. Mine is a hard copy, but I know how your feeling. I'm afraid the cart is damaged and is going to corrupt. I'd hate to lose my first town.

I had that too, my ds was just laying on the bed and suddenly it said the SD card could not be found while it was still inside! So weird! I have a physical copy.

Sorry for your unfortunate experiences with the digital copy. It is a problem that digital copies tend to have (which is why I will never buy a digital copy of a game).

no... lol this has nothing to do with digital copies of games. just a problem with your 3ds because mine has never done that on any of my games that i own digitally

Woops haha. Misread the thread. Perhaps a new SD card is required the fix the issue?

Mine did that too! I was playing my copy (physical) and suddenly the SD card couldn't be found! I had to take it out and put it in a few times before it worked again!

I've had the same problem, but it happened when I squeezed my DS. I just took out the cartridge, blew in the thingy and rebooted the game, it worked perfectly fine after that.

I had that problem with my old SD card. Didn't happen in Animal Crossing, but in Pokemon, it would randomly say that the SD card had been removed or something. I was using a micro SDHC card with an adapter. I just got a new one (not micro) and the problem stopped.

Good to know that 1) it isn't just a problem with the digital version, and 2) I'm not the only one who has experienced this. I tried running a few google searches and I only really found two results at the most that matched what happened to me. I guess I just assumed it was an issue with digital only because I know those can be especially prone to corruption issues.

I once got a message like that (the screen didn't go black though) and I have the digital copy, it was about the SD card which I'd accidentally gotten out of place. If you have a digital copy, you could try to get a new SD card and copy the data into it or something, that may fix the issue, or it could be a problem with your card slot.

Most SD cards will start to go bad after a few years, so it could just be wearing out. My older 3DS, which still has it's original SD, gives me this message all the time

I kinda feel the same, I had problems with the sd card as well. My nintendo said that sd card wasn't in even it totally was there. I ignored it and the same day, my game froze when I was fishing D: I'm kinda scared to go fishing right now if my game starts lagging again.. But I'm glad that my game doesn't say anything about the card anymore and it hasn't been lagging either c:
