Nope, he can have two, you just can only purchase one, I keep a list of which ones I have so I can purchase accordingly. And if you have an alt you're in luck!

Yes it can happen, happened to me similar to yours - ie one piece which is always genuine plus A.N.Other.
Other players have reported two pieces of art where both can be fake/genuine and even 3 pieces genuine. I've only seen similar to your case.
Green feng shui is supposed to increase the chance of genuine art in Redd's (See Liquefy's walk through faq on gamefaqs) - I have a good amount of all 3 colours in all my character houses - and ... well I got two genuine, once in a blue moon.

Is it only the always-genuine ones that can cause this? I know the one time it happened to me it was with one, the Flowery Painting I think.
