I am looking for a boxed series for a show I have nostalgia for and planning to buy it so I can re-watch anytime in great quality.

So I wanted to bring up a debate.

Just an interesting poll to see what people think today of which they prefer.. Whether you are watching reality TV shows, sitcoms, cartoons or anime it doesn't matter.

When I put "bootleg" I wasn't joking.. If you like doing this then vote on it.

Personally I enjoy the physical DVD copies. Just so I can re-watch anytime I want. Might be pricey but for me when i do have the money I have no buyers remorse.

What do you think?

It depends on how they distribute it. I know for some older shws, that I would love to have for nostalgia reasons, they make it so hard to get all the episodes because of how they release DVDs. For example, you'll have 6 out 8 episodes from one season and 3 out of 9 from another on one DVD. It's hard to get them digitally because they either aren't offered or only a select few episodes are offered.

So if they distribute it well I would get the DVD version. If it's nearly impossible to get otherwise I'll bootleg it. The reason I don't like digital is because often you don't actually own the episode and cannot use it completely how you choose to. I.e. how iTunes songs only work on Apple related products, etc.

I'm okay with buying DVDs or watching shows on a streaming service like Netflix. I would never purchase a digital copy of a show on something like iTunes or whatever the playstation store is called now.

it really depends on the series and availability of whatever I'm trying to watch. the video shop I work in has a really good selection of tv shows and anime and if theres anything out of those that I want to watch I usually just rent them out from the store. otherwise I tend to watch everything online.

Digital. Everything. All of it.

TV, Movies, Games. All of it. Dropped physical like box of rocks, and I'm never looking back.

I'd like to own the DVDs (especially with anime) but they're so expensive. Screw it. I like finding them online for free, even if it's illegal.

I honestly wish I had the multiple choice vote of bootleg and digital lol. I watch a lot of my anime/shows on Hulu and Netflix, but anything that isn't on there I watch online through some random site most likely unless it's an anime on Anime Season. DVDs are way too expensive.

Depends.

By default, if I've never seen something and don't know if I'll like it, I'll download it and watch it.

If I liked it enough (which is basically 'did I watch the entire thing'?) I'll end up buying physical copies of the series or the complete boxset if there is one. I prefer having physical copies of things I like anyway, I'm really not a fan of digital. Paying for something that doesn't physically exist just feels, wrong.

A few things I make exceptions with though.
- Older series's of things either tend to not have a DVD release at all or only parts of the show or a few seasons have been released. I'm not wasting my time buying it at all if the whole thing isn't available. If I knew it wasn't complete, it would really bug the crap out of me.
- A few Anime series's don't get entirely released in the west. D-Grey man was one I considered buying until I found out season 2 was never going to be released here. I hate reading subtitles when I'm watching something as well so I won't import something that isn't dubbed. I would rather watch a dodgy fandub than sit reading subtitles whilst trying to also watch what's happening.

I actually got caught out with one show. I own the first 4 seasons of Metalocalypse as well as the movie, though the 5th season has recently been cancelled with the movie ending on a cliffhanger (that was supposed to be concluded with season 5). Now I'll forever have an incomplete story in my collection and that really irritates me.

Omg, that show is show bizarrely hilarious. Is it really done now? That's a bummer if so. :(

I stopped watching around the time they moved to 30 min episodes but I still quote some of the lines from time to time. XD

It really depends on how much episodes you get on either device.

Digital tends to have more episodes but depending on how well the episode is being streamed, the video quality will get butchered sometimes.

DVD gives you great quality and stuff, but depending on the DVD (If it's like a stand-alone DVD and not a box-set) you most likely get less episodes, and this is an issue if you're trying to marathon that show.

I am all about collection on physical DVD as far as series, if it is a movie what you had in the small type unless is a classic, if there are newer shows I want to catch up on right away and must download it digitally I still buy the season when it comes on DVD. An example was there was an old show a few years back limited edition full boxed set entire series of Dark Shadows the original drama series from the 1960s it came with all episodes in a big coffin set not made anymore I bought it as a graduation gift for myself and it is not available in full anywhere anymore but I will always have this piece of history. I collect tv on DVD and movies but physical depends with those as to disc yes digital no but store depends...am trying to avoid a sensitive topic there so hope that was understood.

Shows however even new I was behind on the last season of a popular HBO show so I bought the season digitally but those things to me are not physical, they can disappear one way or another and money is lost no actual item so yes I paid the full price to have the physical version. For movies as I said it depends netflix disc send or if classic will buy physical. Series I always vote physical.

DVD's.

I p much only watch online if it's really old and they never released it around here or not released at all.

I prefer to own DVD's as I like owning the physical copy of things. Plus bonus features are nice. However I do consider watching stuff online when the shows don't get released here. Or even piracy when there aren't any websites that I can watch every episode on. Most of the TV shows I watch are cartoons, which rarely see a full release over here if they make it at all. You'd be lucky to find the complete first series of most cartoons here. Sometimes they don't even get a digital release either, like Dan Vs. And I begrudge paying extra for a DVD which isn't even the right region.

first off why did you make an external poll if the fourms have that feature

secondly i prefer dvd. blu-ray if possible. we dont hav internet at home so cant stream.
if it's not available on regular tv/dvd then i try to find the episodes n download them.

Usually I just watch the series first on TV/online and then buy the DVD version if I really like it and plan on rewatching it.

Our shelves are overflowing with books and games and more books, so I couldn't own a physical copy if I wanted to, lol.

For me it comes down to the quality of the release. I've seen HDTV rips that were better than the Blu-ray releases because the remasters for the Blu-ray were terribly done and re-encoded DVDs that were much better than the original DVD release. Quality is key.

I can't even remember the last time I actually watched a DVD.
If I really want to watch something I record it with On Demand or I use Netflix. So I guess, digital, would be my answer. c:
