The best friend feature makes it so you can message them or if people are visiting your town you can turn on best friends only to prevent strangers from coming in

Yeah, you can use it to talk to people even if you're not visiting each other. You can turn it on and off, but it'll shut off if your wifi messes up so I usually use it to be tell if I accidentally made the wifi mess up or not.
