Sorry if this is a dumb question, but is there any benefit to doing this? Is it just to save time? And I'm guessing you don't get a reward/present for doing it this way, right?

Seems not. I just found a missing book and tried turning it in to Booker and he says:
"Oh, someone dropped something? Well, umm...do you know who it belongs to? Uh, maybe..?
Ah! I'm sorry! You came here to ask if I knew...probably.
I, uh...can't leave the police station right now. Or ever. Can you search for the owner yourself? I-I'm sorry.
I'll try to be more helpful in the future..."

😅 Oh, that makes sense.

 Oh, that makes sense.

WHAT !! There's no point AT ALL? lmaooo, thank you so much for taking the time to find this out and share !!

Yep, I found that out by accident once when I had a lost item on me and went to the police station to check and see if I had any special visitors. I hit the wrong option and got that text from Booker. Poor guy...he can never leave the station...ever. :(

But it seems pretty useless to put that in there for no purpose.
