turn off automatic emojis?

hey, my apologies if this has already been answered. is there any way to type a smiley like : ) without it turning into an emoji "" automatically?

I kinda hate emojis so I type [ PLAIN] insert emoji [ /PLAIN] but it is tedious to write.

btw, that space before the PLAIN is there so it doesn't delete that.[/PLAIN]
