I've done it before (I picked them up today so they should set down their plot tomorrow), but never when trying to get their plot to go somewhere specific.

If I access one of my current save files to change the day and, without entering the town, back out and start a new file will I still be able to move the plot around?

I'm not sure that if I access a current file at all if it'll finalize where the villager goes even if I don't enter the village before hand.

No, you either have to use the system clock or change the time to a few minutes before 6:00 am, wait until 6, and then create a new character

Oh, I forgot to mention, you have to save and quit before it turns 6:00. Otherwise it'll be too late.

Boy, did I learn THAT the hard way. I wish I had known that just a few days ago.

I wanted to plot reset for Julian on my Main Town reset and did not know this. I got stuck with someone else...*sigh*. The upshot is that I think that the villager I got I can soon trade for Julian.

yeah, seriously, don't log on past like 5:55am…

You don't need to go on before 6AM as long as you use a new save file you're fine, its still considered a new day since you haven't gone on mayor yet.

I have plot resetted/campsite reset/villager reset past 6 AM on a new character many times.

I have plot set numerous times with 3 different towns and have never gone in before 6 am. Just go to any time the next day(past 6 am). Go on as a new save and look around for the plot. If it is where you like it then go to town hall, nooks and save. If you don't like the spot then repeat.

yeahs, as long as you don't sign in on a pre-existing file on the day their plot shows up it doesn't matter what time you make a new save file as long as it's after 6am. i've plot reset at 10am, 3pm and i've plot reset for diff villagers or for my villager to move into a specific spot. but once you sign on a pre-existing file that spot is set in stone. it's safer to just change your DS time than go on a pre-existing file to change time bc if you forget and click "let's get started" you're screwed.

I was absolutely certain that I had a good 10 minutes before 6 AM and had a new character. I saw a villager's plot that I did not want and did not save the character. When I went in again with a new character and it was past 6 the plot was there again for the same villager.

So, either I got unlucky and it was a coincidence that I saw the same villager, or I was mistaken about the time. Still, I had NOT saved. So when I saw the new plot with the new character after 6 AM I decided to just suck it up and save the mule character for patterns when I open the QR machine with her.

It sounds like I may have had an unlucky coincidence with the same villager thing and could have tried again? If so...*head-bang*

You might have gotten the villager from someones void or even a streetpass if it was the same villager. I got stuck with several voids when I was cycling an people would pick up their villagers.

well there's only three ways the same villager's plot will show up back to back: 1) you adopted them 2) you got them from someone's void pool 3) streetpass

as long as you don't save the new save file or go on a pre-existing file the plot itself isn't locked in and you can keep plot resetting for a new villager or for a better location in your town. if they're moving in your town, they're gonna move in. the time doesn't matter at all...it's the date that matters. you can plot reset any time between 6am that day until 5:59am the next day.

I always have street pass on and I got tags that day... Now I know that it was a street
Pass thing. Ugh. Well, at least I know now to be careful when I am plot resetting to turn off street pass.
