For anybody that doesn't know I have had issues with playing Nintendo games (both 3DS and Wii U) online at my house. This has been going on since I got my 3DS back in July of 2013, but is finally a problem no more!

It has frustrated me to no end the issues I've had with my games online. ACNL worked great for Tortimers Island online, the Deam Suite and other things, but when connecting to others town's forget it. I was lucky if I could even connect to 1 in 30 different people. It made me so mad. In the case of Mario Kart 7 and 8, it'd just error out at the searching for players screen all the time. Now Pokemon battles and trades worked 100% fine.

It never made sense to me why some games worked fine, while others not at all, and others for only certain features. I spent days searching online and all I found was to mess around with router settings, buy a new router (I needed a new one anyways), and none of the latter fixed my problem.

Now, a bit less than 2 years later I've finally found a solution on my own without even really trying. I have Netflix (on my Wii U) and my Mom always complained about how the American Netflix was better than the Canadian version, and she found a way to switch it. By changing the DNS settings to not auto-obtain and to input specific numbers she found online.

This is of course didn't fix my problem right away cause I never thought to check on my games when she first changed it. Today I figured I'd try Mario Kart 8 online again just to see (and I didn't have any hopes). But believe it or not it worked I was so shocked! At this point I had no idea the DNS change was the reason why it was working. With MK8 working I'd figure I'd try out MK7 as it should work too, but unfortunately it did not... :( Then an idea clicked in my head! The only difference in settings between my 3DS and Wii U was the DNS! Sure enough I changed my 3DS settings to match the Wii U and bam! MK7 was up and running no problem!

I just can't express how happy I am!!! I wish I'd figured this out sooner but hey. Let me know if this ever happened to any of you guys before. I still don't really understand how the DNS was the problem but hey it was the solution at least! :)
