For the past week now I've had massive difficulties sleeping. I will just lay there, wide awake and just cannot sleep. I've tried a few things, but nothing has ultimately worked.

If there are any odd things that have helped you get off to sleep, I could do with the tips. Thanks.

try the Rockabye baby album, I sometimes listen to it if I'm having trouble sleeping.

since I'm a rocking baby.

Could it be that you're thinking about something to much? I recommend you check with the doctor. ;)

exercise before bed, with a nice cooldown period in between? (something about going from one extreme to the other being bad for your heart)

sitting on the floor, legs crossed, back straight for as long as you can until tired, focusing on something, be it counting, talking, a story, video, etc?

there's always the option of staying up all night gaming, killing your eyes/posture and dying in bed... but that takes a lot of time, and doesn't really solve anything, eh?

warm milk?

eating something filling, or that makes you tired/sleepy?

I've become dependent on the static sound that a phone makes in silence, to fall asleep

I dunno :/ what have you tried? an mp3 player or radio with a timer might help, or low lighting/having a tv in your room set on a timer?

@MasterM64 there was a few things circling around my head, so they probably didn't help. Good point.

@Psychonaut, I've tried milk, I tried the sitting thing. But what I'd do was not sit in bed, go do something else for about 20 minutes and try again after that.
And my clock is pretty damn bright, gives my room a deep blue hue.
If I could find my mp3 player, I'd find some songs to put on there and try them.

No problem, anytime. ;)

unpluging/covering up the clock might help, my dad used to complain about the brightness of his, and put a sock over it to sleep, most nights. (lol)

instead of doing something those 20 minutes, try doing nothing, just sitting on the floor of your room, or just somewhere quiet, I'd guess. concentrate on one random thing, or just nothing, whatever's comfortable.

if I'm doing things, I can't fall asleep. if I'm doing nothing, I go unconscious in a matter of minutes.

good luck

Thanks dude. I'll try something in a few, it's getting bright here now anyway and there's no way I can really turn off the sun. =P

I have trouble sleeping all the time. I just started listening to my iPod when I went to bed and it's helped a bunch. I fall asleep right away now.

I usually play tetris on my phone until it gets late, then I fall asleep. But whatever you do, do NOT think about when you will go to sleep. It just keeps you up waiting for the time to come. If all else fails, pull an all nighter.

This is going to sound ridiculously inappropriate and stupid, but it's true.

Jerk off before bed.

Afterwards, you have something called a refractory period- a 20-30 (depends) minute period where you'll feel very relaxed, even tired.

I remember hearing if you drink healthy amounts of water all day, a pinch of salt before you go to bed will make you sleepy.

"Try drinking a glass of water and then putting a pinch of salt on your tongue. My personal observation and others have shown that one begins to fall asleep within a few minutes. In my estimation this combination alters the electrical discharge in the brain an induces sleep. Remember not to touch the palate with the salt. It may cause irritation. A cup of yogurt at night before going to sleep weill also help. It works as you have taken a sleeping pill."

And exercising in the day will have you sleepy. ( in case you didn't )
