Trouble Making a Dream List

Is anyone else struggling to come up with their dream list? I'm having a hard time because I'm trying to balance out personalities. I like a ton of Normals, but there are only maybe one or two Cranky and/or Uchi that I would consider having on my island. I also don't want to have too many ones that are ultra-popular. I want to make sure that I'm making my list based off of the villagers that I like and not because other people like them. Also, I'm not sure if it's worth trying to fit in a few personality types when I don't even like the villagers that much, but I just want their personality types in there because there are a lot of villagers I like a lot better that I'm keeping off the list purely because of personality type. Right now I have 6 Normals and it's kind of overwhelming.

How do you all decide who to put on your list? Popularity? Species? Personality?

I personally have 3 crankies and 3 smugs and loving them all. This means that I don't have some personalities. While I would normally say this is alright, if I could go back in time, I would force my uchi to give me all the DIYs and reactions to learn first before letting them go. As sad as it is to say, I would recommend taking a cranky and uchi purely to get the stuff from them and then ditch them for who you really want when you've taken everything

I personally don't like to make a set dreamie list cause I like a lot of villagers, but I don't like the designs of certain characters so naturally I won't ask them to live on my island (for now). A lot of normal villagers are cute, but it does seem a bit overwhelming when you have 6 of the same personality. My island is a bit unbalanced right now with no peppy or uchi villagers, but since I'm planning on cycling some out relatively regularly, I don't see the need to be too worried unless you're never going to move those villagers out. I wouldn't seek out villagers in a specific personality for the sake of it, and really find ones you like on your island. That being said, there's still stuff locked to each personality like diys and reactions, so you might want to consider that.

I have a hard time keeping a list of dreamies, which is why I've decided not to do it. As I cycle through villagers and I find out that I fall in love with, I'll keep them around until I feel like letting them go (if I ever do). About half of the villagers I have now I am really happy with, and the others will probably be allowed to leave when they ask. With the updated graphics I've found I've been liking more and more villagers I passed by in previous AC games.

In the past I've definitely wanted popular villagers because they're popular, but as time goes on that's becoming less and less so. With New Horizons I just happened to really like the most popular villager (Raymond), but other popular villagers that I've historically liked I've sort of not been as into lately, and quite unpopular villagers like Gaston and Cousteau have become some of my favorites.

I agree, I keep changing my dreamie list all the time because it's so hard to just pick 10 when there are like 300 something villagers. I also like how your signature has your current villagers and past villagers. I think I may do that too for mine! Yeah, I've been trying to make a list because I kept just going with the ones that I like, and they all ended up being Normal so I have 6.

Same! There are some villagers that are randos that move in or ones that I didn't plan to take on that I end up inviting to my island that I end up loving. When looking at the list of villagers when I first started, I didn't really consider Pietro, but he was one of the first villagers that moved to my island and he's become my favorite!

And same with the popularity thing. I felt myself liking the popular ones and I realized that I only liked them because I knew that they were popular. Once they got to my island, I wasn't as crazy about them as I thought I'd be. Like Marina, I thought I'd love her, but I just don't feel a connection with her like I have with other villagers.

My list falls under your conditions, but I do happen to like at least 1 villager from each personality type. I also tried to avoid having multiple of the same species when creating my dreamie list for New Horizons. The popularity of the villagers didn't matter to me as long as I liked them myself, but I can understand where this can bother you (because it would for me too).

What I did when creating my dreamie list was look at one personality type at a time and pick one from each, then once I did that, I picked two extra from my favorite personality types... although in NH, the unexpected happened and I started to attach to a jock, so I had to switch a personality out.
I also tried avoiding having 3 of the same personality, even though this is possible with 10 villagers.

• I already knew I wanted Punchy for sure because he's always my #1 and he's lazy, so I didn't bother looking at lazies.
• I learned about Raymond later on, and at that time, I didn't know how popular he was, but even after knowing, I still really wanted him and found he was smug, so I ignored all the smug villagers.
• Sprocket was going to be my only jock, and normally I don't care for jocks so I wasn't even going to look at jocks to begin with, but now I have two jocks with Hamlet and Hamlet was the one I got attached to... he was one of my first two villagers and I've grown to really enjoy having him around.
• I was debating between Dobie and Del for cranky, but then I realized I can have both because I knew I didn't want any doubles of the rest of the personality types.
• I have Coco for normal because I liked her since Wild World; Astrid for snooty because her design is really cool; Annabelle for peppy because I also like her design... going for that armadillo look; I originally wanted Phoebe for my sisterly, but I already had Sprocket for an ostrich, so I tried looking for another sisterly. That part was difficult because I don't really like how any of them look, but luckily there's Reneigh now, so now I just have to get her and I'll have everyone.

I know having Punchy and Raymond is having two of the same species, but they're the only exception. I love both of them too much.
Sorry for this long explanation or story or whatever you want to call this... this is just how I came up with my dreamie list for New Horizons.

Yeah! I like to remember who was on my island since there are definitely a few that I'd love to come back

I don't have a list but I do have some villagers in mind that I'd definitely like on my island. Out of my 10, 3 of them are villagers that I've had from previous games. I really like meeting the new villagers so I made sure to try and get a few of them on my island. I always try to have a variety of personalities. At first, I wanted a mix of different species but Cheri/Judy and Dom/Pietro ruined that LOL.
