trapped on the island

Ok, so I wanted to make a quick trip to the island today. After I got there, the person already on the island prompted one of the tours. And then never sat down. I wanted to go home, but I couldn't because he was just running around on the island, and not sitting down. It went on for awhile and was just really annoying.

Is this a thing people do? Is there any way around this other than turning of my DS? (I don't have a Wifi switch.)

Players can and do do this. Yes very annoying.
The way normally to deal with it is to flip the wifi, and the new 3ds units don't have that - so the advice then seems to be to power off.
Personally I would either turn off the router or move out of its range. Either is possible for me, but if you have other users using the wifi, then can you move out of its range?

before ending your session i would be sure to also use the CT settings to block that player from being assigned to the same island as you in the future...

I had this same expirience someone selected a tour the moment i walked in the island he then looked at my badges and demanded i gave him 71mil i laughed but i had to spend like30 more minutes trying to get him to sit down i dont have a wifi switch either and i had boughtsilver axes i really didnt want to turn the wifi off >.<

I would second this. If you bought something you'd rather not part with, eventually they'll leave but it could be awhile.

I have a wifi switch so I can and have switched off wifi in the past.
But I've lost everything in my basket as my tormentor was there before me.

If a player has opened a tour but not sat down, hence trapping you on the island I think it also means no one else can enter the island?
A new player entering would be useful as the game saves, (hence giving the chance to error and keep what is in the basket).
But I don't think that option is available if the player already on the island has opened a tour - ie no one else can enter the island?

If the tormentor opens a tour but doesn't sit down - are you able to go on a tour without them?
If the tormentor opens their inventory I think it similarly blocks you leaving/going on a tour but does it stop another player entering the island? Might not do, so giving you a chance to leave with basket saved?

If you try and wait it out the other player could error themselves, still leaving you without the items in your basket.

I've more questions than answers, haven't been to CT for ages because of the problems and of losing items.

I think if their inventory is open, nobody can enter or leave, cuz they need to close it before the game can save.
