Toy hammer

Hitting them and making them upset tends to make them want to stay. The best way to get rid of a villager is to be extremely friendly to them or ignore them entirely.

I hope this isn't a lie, Sephiroth. Like that lie you told Cloud about him being a puppet. >8I

...seriously, though, if hitting them with the toy hammer actually makes them want to stay, then I know what I'll be doing to my favorite villagers now. > w>;

Lols that's what I been doing =D Barold never dare to ask to leave ever since then >:B

Talking to villagers sort of puts you on this "quest".

If you're really nice to them, the game will ping them to move at some point because it's trying to make it difficult for you to get their picture. It forces you to be more attentive towards them to make sure you don't slip up. If you bully them in any way, you don't get taken off the track, you just sort of get stuck in one place. The game takes it as you engaging with them, even if it's not in the nicest way... The best way to get rid of them is to ignore them so that the game gets the impression that they're unnecessary to you.

Whoa! Hey there, I didn't lie to him. I was merely telling him the truth while solidifying the fact that he is and shall always be my puppet. Oh Cloudy... so easily manipulated by everything like the puppet you are.

But yeah... bullying doesn't make the villager hate you more... it just puts a halt to their developing friendship with you that can halt the desire to move. I harassed Nibbles and Pancetti for months during the great Squirrel and Pig infestation that I had and it took forever for them to move. It wasn't until I started befriending them did they get the heck out of Midgar. Well... that and the many letters from Hojo that told them he wanted to splice them into soldiers.
