so you know when you first make a town a villager will move in the next day, right?

you can just make a new character that day and keep on resetting until you get the villager you want.
since you already have the other types you can count on getting either smug or uchi, i think. and since you'll be getting a villager no matter what you can just keep on resetting until you're satisfied. i don't remember if you keep getting one every day until you reach 8 or 9 villagers though

i apologize if it's been mentioned before! only found out about this a while ago and i haven't really seen anything about it, so

I've never tried it like this. It shouldn't affect your town in any way so give it a try! You generally get a new villager every two or three days up to nine normally.

at least when i tried it out it worked just fine and i ended up getting marshal!
also: if others decide to try this i'd like them to post and tell me how it goes

I did this in my new town and at some point I got Rosie. I really wanted her to move in, but the plot was in a horrible spot so I had to say goodbye to her. I don't remember who I ended up getting.

you can reset for any villager you want at any point in the game as long as you're sure a new villager is gonna plot the next day and you dont have a villager of the desired personality type in your town. if youre patient you could get 9 dreamies just by resetting. of course, you'd have to put pwps everywhere you dont want them to put their houses and you must have lots of free time and patience.

well, yeah! but it's more because with this you're sure they're going to pop up the next day and you'll be getting a couple of villagers one after another so it's much easier to get the ones you want, i guess.

when it's a day after a villager is in boxes and you're left with 8 houses, tt 7 or more days forward and a move-in is p much guaranteed. ive always done this to get tier 1s unless I'm particularly picky about where I want them to be

aaah okay! nice!
tting is kind of tedious for me so i don't really do it (yet i'm willing to spend a whole day resetting. amazing)

I definitely got 5 dreamies out of the 9 original villagers by doing this in my one town. One was in the original 5 and I managed to reset in 4 within a couple days. I only had to move out four villagers to have my full dreamie list it was sweet. No one was even in terrible spots or anything!
I did try to do this again with my most recently started town and had far worse luck, only managing to reset in two dreamies. So, it can still be time consuming and frustrating, but it can work very well.

There are 8 personalities, you will have 5 of the original 6 types at move in (uchi and smug are never part of the original 5) and the game wants you to have one of each type if allowed to just move in randoms. So your first move in will be either uchi, smug or whichever other type you don't have.

As far as resetting in randoms later, keep in mind that the next random villager to move in will never share personality type with the most recent villager to move out. Also, the game tries to keep a balance, so whatever type you don't have will be the dominant type it throws at you during reset... Unless it was the most recent move out.
