The thing that usually ruins everything is villager houses! In Magnolia, they're all clustered around Re-Tail! Thankfully I'm not overly fond of any of them, so I'm just cycling them out and putting patterns on the ground. Like SIX HOUSES! Sandwiched between a cliff, Re-Tail, and the Plaza! There's other places to move, you know!!
Town Layout resetting is the definition of insanity.

Man, I know it's ugly as heck but abuse the heck out of patterns to prevent houses in undesirable areas. Takes a good hour to set up, but well worth it if you're alright with the ugliness until you get a better looking pattern down for it.

Adding to this, I strongly advise planning out where you do want villagers to place their houses right away. Trust me, it'll save you a ton of grief later.

It's a pretty good analogy though! It truly is insanity doing the same thing over and over again expecting things to change, expecting to find the perfect map. You start to look everywhere, and everyone here has done the same thing over and over again thinking "this time it's going to be different".

Never played a Far Cry game, so I don't think so. To be honest, this quote on insanity is pretty on-point, even if it references a game.

Oh haha. Just reading that sentence in your original post made me think of that quote instantly. It's a great definition that runs well with the underlying themes of the game. And surprisingly, it's applicable to a game like Animal Crossing too lol
It's applicable to anything in life, really.

I know the feeling!! Villagers' houses don't bother me as they're not permanent (unless they're in the perfect spot for my house) but many things do - IIRC I spent five days resetting for this map and about seven resetting for my other town. I do feel pretty accomplished when I finally get my perfect map, but jeez I know what you mean about insanity! (also I though the insanity quote was Einstein, but that may just have been the internet lying to me)
I'm currently on day 3 for this town, haha. 3DS is charging so it's ready for tomorrow. XD
I never reset my maps ever. I didn't even know there were multiple choices back then (i got this game in dec as a gift, you think I would have checked...as the game had been out for 6 months at that point, nope)
Also, about that FC reference, FC didn't install it, they borrowed it, I don't think anyone knows who made that definition, it was from a book (correct me if I'm wrong) that was to help people with addictions, people just tag a famous person with this quote it and it "sounds " to them (Martian Luther King is an example)
