Of course if you personally feel like it's enough of a reason to reset, then go ahead! If something makes you unhappy then the best thing to do is change that. Although I can understand that you love these villagers very much, if it's having a negative effect on you it's best to get new ones because no matter how long ago it was, I can understand that the pain will still be there for you considering how many years you were friends for with this person. It'll take time to get your villagers back, but I think your well-being is more important. Good luck and do what makes you happy! Out of sight, out of mind
