I have been remodeling my town and i have been trying to plant some trees and bushes. I planted a whole row of trees and they all died.and I planted some bushed that also died. they were perfectly spaced so that was not the issue. Is there a such thing as having too many trees for the land to support?
I don't think so...but dead spots can be an issue, or if its hard to walk around - same reason you can't make a square out of bushes, so you can't trap villagers
I'm having the same issue. I planted a few trees to make an orchid with 1 space to walk between them all and they all grew just fine. When they grew I saw that I put 2 fruits of the same colour together (lemon and durian) so I chopped one down and planted a permission in it's place, but the next day it died.
Same happened again when I was laying my paths and put trees with 2 spaces in-between each tree for a flower in-between them. Yet there was a thriving normal tree there before that I chopped down to replace with a perfect fruit tree.
Oddness. None of them were too close to a cliff, rock or object of any kind and room to walk in and out of each and around.
I think the fake rock spawns may also effect tree sappings. I once planted a row of trees and then one died for no reason and then the next day after that a rock spawned where the sapping died.

I have a few spots in my hedge along my paths that won't let bushes/trees grow, but flowers are just fine. I'm just leaving them blank. I figure the paths will still be delineated, and the villagers don't run and destroy grass/flowers. It is a little annoying though, having a perfect line ruined by a dead spot. :/
You might have to replant the whole row of trees again. Once the trees surrounding it have fully grown they might be putting too much shade for the sapling to grow. I've run into the same situation but I'm chop chop happy.
I've killed some bushes that I wasn't too sure why. Sometimes I wonder if laid paths can effect it. I will be testing that out later in the week when I go back to working on my town.

One of my dead trees is right next to a path, but I've already tested the theory whether it's the path that killed it by removing it from the surrounding spaces and testing again.
But saying that, half of the others I planted were right next to a path and they grew just fine. The mystery continues. :/
