Apparently you cannot use online services (visiting towns) unless you do the update. I was going to have my mayor of cascades go to my cycling town to adopt Mallory and got the error stating this. I am going to try it using local instead. I want to get Mallory into cascades before I do the update.

Edit: Several members have posted that you can in fact plot reset using the wisp/card option of moving villagers in. Thank goodness!!

update: you cannot do it local either. I tried to have my mayor from Mystic (which I updated) visit Cascades (which I have not updated yet) and got a message that I can only visit towns with the update

I sure hope I can do the plot resetting once I do the update.

Yeah, it's probably so you can't go between one town that has the update and one town that doesn't, since I imagine that would mess up stuff for the town that doesn't have the update, for instance with the new items.

So in Cascades (town not updated) I cannot open my gates for online services. I can however, open for local. BUT, towns that have already been updated cannot visit a town that is not. Unfortunately, both Mystic and my cycling town are updated, so I cannot confirm that for sure

Forcing you to update, what a shame. Wonder if there is restrictions on plot resetting.

Just got back had to try this out!

Local to local WITHOUT the update is currently working.

If you have the update it will NOT let you connect like SharJoy says.
If you want to play with an not updated town local is the only way to go.

That's so annoying. More of a reason for population growing to be my favorite ac game.

OK, so instead of bringing Mallory over to Cascades, I decided to try and bring back Chadder, one that was to be a perm but his home landed in a very bad spot. He is the last one that moved out, but it still worked. So now I will TT forward and try plot resetting. Keeping my fingers crossed.

OK, so once wisp tells you they move tomorrow, they are gone the next day (no day in boxes). I made the mistake of assuming that O'hare would go into boxes the next day, then I would tt one more day and use an alt to plot reset. However O'hare moved out the next day and Chadder's plot showed up. Thankfully this time his plot is in a better spot. So I do not have an answer yet. I am going to try it in my cycle town.

When trying to get Fauna to move in, I was told she could not due to an event going on in the town. I TT 1 day forward and tried again. I was told she would move in very soon, did not give a day. So now to TT 1 day ahead again and use an alt to see what happens.

Fauna's plot was not there the next day, so will TT one day ahead again

So it would appear that you cannot plot reset. there was no plot, her house just showed up the second day.

This is very disappointing...ruins trying to design your town.

I've never plot reset but it sucks if they really took it out. I know a lot of others make use of it a lot and the fact they made villagers instantly move in instead of plot is sort of weird.

Nooooooo!!!! You'd think if they were going to "fix" plot resetting, they'd let you actually choose house locations.

Yeah, I guess they figured if you could move them in and out immediately, then that would be one way of plot resetting. Sure am glad I had the villagers all moved in, except one in all my towns.

is it possible to use plot resetting to decide where her house will go, even if there is no plot?

No. I think the only option is using wisp/card to move them out and back in until you like where they land. I am going to try this tomorrow in Cascades. I am too tired to try now.

So much new info to take in and learn for this ole brain.

You see, this is why Nintendo doesn't like for us to do tricks.
