Tips on completing the museum?

I recently started trying to complete the museum, anyone got any tips?
It's November now in my town and I can't really find any new bugs here so I'm thinking of going to the island and looking for stuff on tours

I recommend playing the game casually until the last week of availability of anything you haven't caught yet, then grind for them. You'll usually find them on their own by doing favors and everyday tasks, so there's no need to stress it usually.

There's some things that are easier and exclusive catches on the island, so it's worth going there for sure.

Pick the 8 to 10 minute tours to give you more time.
Hide n seek and fossil are long ones.

If you place flowers on your island you can catch most of the butterflies. The only butterflies you can't catch are common, yellow and raja butterfly. If you place a purple flower you'll get a peacock butterfly. Take a purple flower from the tour or bring one from your town.

Ask in the train station for a town set in a season you need. Some bugs you can only catch in your own town.

I use the ACNL Guide app since I can't possibly remember all the bugs and fish that are available each month. I was then able to narrow down which ones I have yet to catch since it serves as a checklist you can mark off for each creature. Super handy imo.

Just thought I would mention I believe there are a few people here who keep their towns in 1 season, or would be willing to time travel their towns to whenever you need. If you need a specific bug but do not feel like time travelling, going to someone else's town to catch it may be a good idea.

I usually go to a friend's town, she time travels a lot so it's really great for finding things that are out of season in my town.

I forget, but can't you not even bring bugs/fish back from tours? or was it only for specific ones?

also I mean, if you really don't care, you could just pull up a guide and tt to the required dates/times for all the stuff. then buy any fossils/art from people here in the re-tail board

or of course just going to other people's towns in different seasons/times to catch stuff, as mentioned

You cannot keep bugs and fish because you just release them anyhow for most tours, Tortimer only gives tools dependent on the tour also. You typically may only keep flowers and fruit.

Yep that's right, I've never had a reason to use those so that's probably why they didn't come to mind.

Hide n seek, fossil and Gardening tours are ones that will let you bring home bugs/fish. I've caught the orchid mantis during those tours and took them home.

The axe is fun to use during Hide n seek. Once you find them don't speak to them and chop the tree. It fun watching them after the tree disappears.
