Tips for finding the barreleye?

I think it's much easier to catch on a mystery island, where fish respawn more quickly and closer together (so you don't waste time running along long stretches of empty beaches). I tried to catch it on my island for over a week with no luck, then went to a mystery island and ended up catching three of them in about half an hour. I was so surprised!

Didn't find mine in any particular area. Got lucky when I first started my search for it, caught it on the 3rd try, then took me over an hour to find the 2nd, so gave up for now getting 3 for CJ

I have only managed to catch 1 and it was months ago. I used fish bait and I was lucky. I know there is a small window to catch them, 9pm to 4am i believe.

Wow! I didn't expect soo many people to respond! Thanks! From what it sounds like, I should go to the mystery tour island and look for it there. I'll give that a go instead of the fish bait. Also, I can't imagine what people go through trying to get three for a fish model. Crazy.
