For the past year or so, I would just stay up on my phone until I'd eventually get tired and fall asleep. I'm trying to break out of that habit now, but whenever I'm still wide awake in bed without my phone the only thing in my mind is 'I could be on instagram right now, but I'm not' which is really irritating haha..

Last night was the first time I tried sleeping without staying up on my phone, and for some reason I didn't sleep until roughly four in the morning and I got in bed at twelve. I was actually really tired for those four hours but for some reason I was just really uncomfortable and couldn't sleep at all..so I was just wondering if anyone has any advice for getting myself to sleep. I tried doing everything I heard of like counting backwards from 100, wiping my mind blank, etc etc.

I'll be following this thread as well. I've been having a hard time falling asleep. Listening to the sound of rain on my iPod does help me sleep faster a good amount of the time.

what i do is, wake up super early the following morning, don't take any naps, and you should be tired by night time o.e but you would have to keep this same schedule.Do you have to go to school? cuz i would think that you should feel pretty tired lol

-try drinking warm milk (ugh .-. i heard it helps)
-take a hot shower before
-sleeping medicine
-read a book
-be sure to keep the lights low/off. That does include phone screens.
-exercise, but not near bed time. (worked for me)
-aromatherapy? I use a specific scented lotion to help me relax before bed, spearmint and lavender.
- dont use to many blankets (thats just me though)
- stretch! Adjust your pillow.
-this is something fun that i do but i like to imagine a crazy scenario in my head. I try as hard as possible to visualize it, sometimes they actually become my dreams if i try hard enough xD
-meditate/breathing techniques.

good luck

You probably have slept enough the night before and aren't expending all that excess energy to the point where you need to recover it. Run a marathon without eating or drinking anything and expend all that energy so you actually need sleep. :)

I have the same problem but school starts soon and I don't want an iPad all up in my face .v.

Wow so subbing this, its 12 at night while I'm posting this.

Let's get scary, I'm 14 and I found a grey hair when I was washing my hair, definitely need more sleep *.*

My mom said she found a grey hair and I'm 11 'c'

Cherry juice is supposed to help. Cherries naturally have melatonin, the hormone that makes you sleep.

I pace until I burn off all my extra energy. I have pretty bad insomnia so it only helps every so often, but I find if i burn off energy by running or exercising till I'm to tired to think.

Listen to the Careless Whisper karaoke version and drift away whilst dreaming of George Michael.

Get things out of your head... this is one of the more common sleep disturbing factors. Write it down, or just vent with someone (if you can). Don't have your cell phone close to you, and if you do use only as an alarm clock if need it.

Drink tea (unless it make you high like it does for me), read something, watch/listen to relaxed things if you want.

Try not to spend too much time in the same place you sleep. e.g. if you lie in bed playing games/using your computer then try sitting at a desk instead or, better, leave the room altogether if you can. It causes your mind to make the association of the bed(room) with sleep which makes it easier to actually fall asleep.

I find listening to podcasts actually help me. It might not work for everyone, but it helps me when I zone out and listen to someone else talking and it can be enough background noise to stop me from thinking too much, but not enough to keep me awake. Obviously you might have to use your phone with earphones to listen to it but you're at least not scrolling through websites. You don't have to listen to podcasts, you can download "relaxing music" apps to help you sleep - I use White Noise and that's really good, I like listening to the rainwater or beach waves the most, but there's a lot to choose from.

I've also heard some people find that working out before bed helps them sleep because it tires them out. I can also agree with this. I used to have ballet and judo classes on the same night, every Wednesday, and I would come home around 9:30 and just crash out in bed around 10:00, and fall asleep right away. I don't know if doing this is really good for you or not - I don't think it is because you should at least let your body cool down and stuff.

Having a bath also might help. I find showers actually refresh me and wake me up - again could be down to preference - whereas in a bath I can lay back and relax.

Again, these are just my own suggestions with what helps. You might find that these don't help you at all - and that's okay. We all find different methods much better or worse, so just try them out and see what works best for you. :)

What I do most nights to feel asleep is go on Youtube and play a song.
I just let my phone there and turn to the other side to avoid any light coming from it.
Eventually, I pass out without realizing it~
