Tips for catching a King Salmon?

Hi I'm having a hellova time, he spawned only once so far at the bottom of the waterfall/mouth of the river, and I was so nervous I screwed up and didn't catch him. Since then I've tried everything to get him to spawn, from the save and continue trick to simply scaring away other fish or catching them, I've caught a handful of Char, literally two regular Salmon, and I've devoted a lot of hours to it so far and seriously he's only spawned once. I do look after 9pm when Char stop spawning, too. Nothing.

It's pouring thunderstorm rain right now and I've had gobs of Dorado, Pike, Gar, etc. popping up around town, so I believe it when it's said rare fish are more likely to spawn in rain, but it's meant crud-all to the King Salmon, apparently.

I've also lined the front/bottom of every room in my house with green/plants for increased luck, but nothing!

How have you caught one? I've been trying every day for him so far and the only month he spawns in is half over!!

I caught tons of this jerk in City Folk, I only need a single one for my catalog and museum, waaaaah!!!

I know, I'm having a hard time too. I caught a bunch of salmons but haven't seen a King Salmon so far D:
Some people are so lucky to catch it so early but not me >_<

i think u have to run up and down the beach to kinda reset stuffs? well they're rare so the spawning rate is low. but i saw on a website that they are common in the first 2 weeks of September. it's always like this, when you want something, its hard to get it, but when you're not even expecting it, its gonna appear, happned to me with the string fish

Sit next to the beach, click save and continue till you see a large shadow. I have caught around 3.

Run the length of your beach, then check the river mouth under the waterfall where it joins the ocean (beach level, not up top). If is not there, run it again. The big shadow is it.

I found it easier to catch it from up above, casting from the top into the area below the waterfall, if that helps

I had a tough time finding one but managed to eventually get one a few days ago. I tried a lot of saving and continuing but that didn't work for me so I just walked up and down the beach end to end. After a while, I saw a large shadow and walked up the slope to cast my fishing rod into the waterfall and then managed to get one. You should get one eventually, don't give up hope!

Also I believe from tomorrow, you'll be able to find them anywhere in the river.

I got mine yesterday, probably took 30-60 min because I lost the first one (I panicked too )

In my town the "little beach" is next to the mouth of the river so I just stood there catching everything, once in a while when no new fish appeared I just saved and continue, I probably got like 50+ Salmon, it was like 6pm in my town but that probably doesn't matter.

Same as others have said; I used the wetsuit and swam to a tiny beach just above my waterfall, and kept saving and continuing, catching a ton (like, 50-60) of regular salmon and eventually getting an extra-large shadow (then, naturally, scared it away and had to do it again) and it was a king salmon. It depends on the layout of your town, but I couldn't get anything in the waterfall to bite when I was on the beach to the south of the waterfall, I had to be above it.

I caught mine today!!!

All those hours I was trying I was fishing from above the falls, today I started diving for my last 3 dive creatures and I though heck I'll have a look at the base of the falls, and yup!!! It's crazy, loads of Salmon and Char spawn at the base of the falls when you're down there, it's like the game spawns stuff relatively close to you, instead of spawning in the river leading to the falls.

Thank you for all the tips everyone! I lucked into it but I hope someone else who is having trouble reads all this!
