Been trying for the past week to find a island I liked visually, now Im feeling like Im way behind everyone else. Im usually against time travelling because it will feel like Im loosing the connection to my island. But I also feel stupidly far behind everyone else. So I've been thinking about time travelling through the first days to get all set up and then return to "normal play". Just wanted to ask if someone else done this? Did it make you loose the connection to your island? Or did it feel like it was worth it to catch up?

it’s ok to go at your own pace! a lot of folks here are excited to give their extra items to beginners, too. i loved the walkthrough portion of the game, but some folks find it tedious.

either way you’re never “done” with animal crossing so you don’t really need to catch up with anyone. a lot of folks that blew through the game are just now resetting in the same place as you. you do you.

Thank you guys for answering, just want to clerify. It's mostly because I feel that me resetting previously made me loose the progress I had. Even if it was small (only played the island for a few days). Which is why I feel like I'm loosing out on alot being back at square one. But like you said you're never really done with Animal crossing so Im probably just going to stick with playing without TT-ing forward. Risk is that Im going to loose interest and regret timetravelling to begin with.

I did this lol, I started playing animal crossing on May 5 and set my switch to March 20, but I only time travelled like 2 days of my gameplay and got sick and tired of tt'ing constantly so after that, I went back to normal play... Just play how you want to play it, if you feel like you're already way behind then tt, but if you don't mind then don't...

Im starting to debate tt-ing forward until I get my campsite to be a good thing. Im currently waiting for the museum to be built so I can donate the huge amount of bugs/fish I got waiting for me. Also ****ing up and forgetting to pay off my first homeloan with NMT set me back yet another day so it makes me even more "behind". Since I love my island and the villagers I got as starters the chance of me loosing connection to it is fairly small so I'll probably tt forward until I got Nook's cranny up/museum and campsite. That's afterall is when I feel like the real "game begins".

I personally am against time traveling because I’d feel like I’m cheating! I started maybe a week ago?? And I’m doing fine in game! Too me at least, the walk through portion of the game was fun!

I don’t time travel mostly because I don’t want to screw up the timing of my in-game birthday ;u;

If you’re doing it solely to “catch up,” I wouldn’t recommend it. I time travelled back and forth multiple times each day when the game first released because I rushed to unlock terraforming. I missed the relaxing pace of the game and watched as my island went from 0 to 100 in a week. The stress of rushing about and trying to get everything I wanted was more of a negative experience and I felt burned out quickly. That said, I still find a lot of enjoyment redesigning my island, playing with friends, and taking photos.

I wouldn’t worry about catching up. Enjoy the relaxing pace of the game. Build up your island and discover things at your pace - not others’. You’ll likely have most of the unlocks within a month anyway. :)

I did end up timetravel to "catch up"and I feel as if I cheated the game and I cant even look at my island without asking myself if it was worth it. Considering to reset eventhough I somehow managed to get most of my dream villagers on islands. Which also is soley because of tt-ing. So it doesnt feel like its worth it at all at this point. :cry:

Ooh, yeah...while a lot of people got this game on its release date, there's a good portion who picked it up later (like myself!). There's no need to time travel to catch up to the release date people because you'll catch up to them anyways from just playing normally. Just take it slow and plan everything out as you go. :)

I mean... I don't want to discount your feelings but, seriously, there's no shame in time traveling! It's been an element since the very first game and there's nothing wrong with it. I guess it's "cheating" in that it's not technically how the game is supposed to be played... but why does that matter when you're not hurting anyone? If you're cheating to, say, beat someone in a race... that's not cool. If you're "cheating" to experience a different season, or make up for time you lost in a game, who's losing because of that? No one. I personally time travel because I tend to play a few in-game days per real life day (if I was stuck on the real life day, I'd get bored). I've time traveled in every single game and it's always been part of the fun for me. While I don't time travel just to holidays anymore (partly because I don't like leaving my town for that long, partly because I can't... still sore they didn't just add the holidays in right away) that's how I played in City Folk. Some people get really heated up about that type of playing but... whatever. I had a lot of fun doing that! And it didn't hurt anyone. So why would that be wrong?

So, really, if you don't want to time travel- don't! But there's no need to beat yourself up if you do. There really is no shame in it. The beauty of Animal Crossing is you can play HOWEVER you want- and there's no way to play "wrong"!

Im really split in that regard, on one hand I feel that playing the game at the day its supposed to be makes it go boring rather fast because you run out of things to do. Especially in the begining and probably in long term too. In new leaf I never time traveled and I didnt really enjoy my town (stopped playing or reset it countless of times over and over again). Right now though Im just trying to find that sweet spot in NH that I know I can get, I mean I havent even unlocked all the buildings or terraforming yet so heck I got ALOT to look forward to. Also the first Animal crossing game that I do not have absolutely the worst villagers makes me happy, so thank you everyone. I will most likely keep time traveling as I've done so far and enjoy the game my way. :love:
