As Mairen said, why another thread about it? I think people get it now, and there is nothing much left to say on this topic because I feel like everything is being repeated. If people still anna talk about it, please just stick to one thread. But as I've said before - play as you want, nobody got the right to hate you for it. But gatekeeping TTers when you don't do it yourself is okay in my book, since I don't want any "spoilers" of any kind. ♡

I will stop commenting on TT threads now, I feel like I do it too much, lol.

BTW. When I say gatekeeping I mean that I wont visit their island or trade. Not bashing them for it or shaming them for TTing. Because that's not cool, so I'm sorry you had to experience that.

Thanks everyone for the feedback across the board, it's really appreciated. As for the ones bringing up why I posted this when they haven't been seeing it here, it wasn't an incident here at all actually, it's been happening on Facebook groups and such outside the site, and I wanted to garner feedback about how others felt about it, even here, so I apologize if I didn't clarify that, this site is amazing and I know people will let others play how they want and it's a generally toxic free community and I applaud that <3

People can TT since everyone has a different reason but the moment they take it online is when I have a problem with it. Like Youtuber who TT and have a nice town and pretend that they didn't TT and use the lame excuse as "hard work" and making other people feel like **** that their hard work and town is nowhere close.

Or people who TT/dupe and sell NMT on Ebay for real money (helping Nintendo transition to microtransaction in their next game) and ruining it all for everyone else. Not to mention TTers are the reason why events aren't even in the game because they literally spoil everything. However TT exist because for those that work all day and can't have the same access because buildings are close at night.

There are people who TT and then there are people who only TT in the beginning (because of how slow every AC game start is). Then there are the chronic TTers who TT literally everyday and by the time they are done with the game (in weeks) complain that the game is boring!

Everyone should play the game the way they want to as long as it doesn't affect everyone else (unfortunately this is not the case).

And with everything that I said, I'm a pure traditionalist (opposite of TTers) so I don't plan on interacting with anyone who TT because my personality and views is completely different from that person and it wouldn't work. If delay gratification is not in your blood, then we don't really share anything in common. Nevertheless I have no problem with TTers as long as they aren't affecting the online economy (not the case) and Nintento view on micro-transaction (not the case either).

there is no leader board, no competition, no ranking in this game.
THERE IS NO WAY TO CHEAT.
how about you just let people enjoy the game how they chose to do so without trying to bring them down?

Why do people say this? Of course it does. Now it doesn't affect me since I don't bother with the online economy, but other people who don't TT can't beat someone who TT at being able to trade/buy villagers they want.

I seriously do not understand why people care about how OTHER people play a single player game. Like it literally doesn't affect them... yet they get to riled up and angry about it. It's ridiculous.

Another of these threads, I guess. Well, I may as well throw my two cents in. Time traveling is essentially choosing not to wait; that's all. I still have to gather my materials to build whatever it is I'm building; it's not as though TT'ing spawns the items into my lap with no effort. I think of it like this; Persona games, and most recently Fire Emblem Three Houses has an option to sleep, or skip a week if you don't want to go through the day-to-day progression. This allows the player to essentially TT to get to the meat and potatoes of the game, if you will. It's literally the same thing. Because of this, I personally don't view it as cheating.

I view duping (when it was around) cheating. I view using a modified switch and save editor to get stuff cheating. However, setting the clock forward so you don't have to wait? Nah, that's a built in feature in many RPGS, so I don't think that constitutes cheating.

However, at the end of the day, it really doesn't matter. People will call TT cheating if they want to, and it really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. It's not as though this game has any player competition; no PvP. If someone builds up their town before someone else, there is literally no impact on anyone else; it's not as if someone who TT's is going to magically show up in my town and bully me because I don't have all the stuff they do. Also, I don't really get the whole "TTers spoil the game because they can show/tell us things before we experience them ourselves." ??? If people don't know that it snows, or the seasons change in Animal Crossing by now, then I don't know what to say. Also, events are locked in this game until Nintendo decides to patch them in, so TT'ers can't "spoil" the fact that there will be Christmas, and Halloween either.

TL;DR: This thread is pointless because there is no right or wrong answer; people will have whatever opinion they want to and it ultimately doesn't matter unless you allow what they say to matter to you. Just do you, people.
