Time Change Question - Sort of Complicated?

I have two physical copies of New Leaf.

When I bought my second copy, I started playing it on my first DS (system set to the correct date, March 18 currently), but I set up the town to be a few months ahead (it's September 5 currently). I then started playing the second copy on a borrowed DS, which has it's system set to a day ahead (so March 19, currently).

I never had any issues - the town still recognized itself as being the date I chose when I switched from playing it on the first DS to the second DS.

However, if I switch my second town to the first DS now, it recognizes that the system date is one day behind, so the game starts up as the day before.

If I were to switch the second DS to the correct date (so from March 19 to March 18) would this change the second town's in-game date to March 18? Or would it still recognize the game date as September, but say go back a day to September 4?

Sorry if this is confusing. The second town has a bunch of villagers that I need to transfer over, so if it's going to go back in time by MONTHS then I don't want to risk losing any of them. But I would like the two systems to be set to the correct date if it won't do much damage.

Both towns will correspond to the date set in the 3DS, so yes, your September town will try to jump ahead a few months. I think if you speak to Isabelle before starting the game and setting the time to September 4th the game wont recognize it though. I have two physical copies on one 3DS and when I change the time now I do it through Isabelle to keep them separate.
