Tier 5 Auto-Voiding

I consider the tier system as a way to gauge which villagers could net you some bells and/or items...but it seems a lot of people look at it as which villagers are worth even offering, which linda bugs me.

I giveaway all my moving villagers anyway, regardless of popularity. Besides, several of my fav villagers are considered tier 3 at the highest. Except Stitches; I love that little cub.

They're not official. It's just a way to show what villagers are more popular for selling here on this site.
Too many people take it the wrong way and think that higher tier=better, or are embarrassed to have lower tiered villagers. Which is why always see the same 30 villagers in towns. I can see why tiers are necessary for competitive pokemon, fighting games, or mobas, which help character's gauge their potential. But this is ac and the characters don't have potential, none is "better" or rarer as a villager than another. I know it's a way for helping on pricing villagers, but I don't think would have too many issues without. And overall I think it does more harm than help. And a lot of people think of it as a way to see which villagers are even worth offering as stated above.

I understand how annoying it is for the villager that you want to be voided by someone. But (and I'm probably going to sound like a jerk) here is how it is from a cycler's perspective:

I don't always cycle. But when I do have my cycling thread open I offer my services for free because my goal is really just to help as many people as I can. And at first I was doing it without voiding any villagers (or at least trying not to) So whenever a villager was in boxes I'd go ahead and make a post announcing their availability and then waited for someone to ask for said villager.

Popular villagers like Beau, Diana, Ankha would be claimed within minutes, sometimes even seconds of me posting that they were in boxes. But less popular villagers would take longer. I'm talking about hours here. Hours of me refreshing the tbt page, posting on tumblr, on reddit, and everywhere I could think of just to wait for someone to claim said villager. It was incredibly frustrating to waste so much time. Seriously, you have no idea how boring it is.

Then I realized something: I don't owe anyone anything. I'm offering my service for free, why should I stress over helping people who aren't even grateful for what I do for them? Seriously, half of the people I give villagers to don't even say thank you. And even less give me wi-fi rating.

So unless someone says "Lurking for _______" or anything along those lines I usually just void the villager I know isn't going to get adopted.

i agree, I didn't autovoid my tier 5 villagers because I was concerned that people would be looking for him/her.
But, when I did this, I ended up waiting hours for someone to claim them and people would get upset and keep asking "IS DIANA IN BOXES???"
or something like that.

thats why the tier system and autovoiding exists, so we know when we can void a villagers that's clearly unwanted.
Also, i check the looking for thread before voiding a villager (even now after I stopped cycling)

I try not to autovoid any villagers I think are cute. I know this relies heavily on my own bias, but if I think a villager is cute I am more likely to try to find them a home.
That being said, I also like the excitement of seeing who's gonna move in next, so I like to move on as often as possible. My villagers in my main towns are all on lock down and I rarely get campers so I only get to see the true variety of villagers in my cycle towns and it's exciting and I lose interest in cycling if I let a villager sit around for too long.
Yes, I want to get people their dreamies, but timing is everything in life and if no one bites on a lower tier villager that is really more the fault of those seeking not of those giving unfortunately.

The thing that bugs me with tiers is that a lot of people seem to have the same dream villagers, like people think that because a villager is tier 1, they must like them too, instead of playing the game and finding dream villagers on their own. This doesn't go for everyone, mind you, but still.

95% of people don't want tier 1 villagers because they are Tier 1, the villagers are tier one because a lot of people like them. People who let the tiers affect their decisions are in the extreme minority.

Agreed. I've seen numerous people who've explicitly stated that they figured since the villager was so popular, there must be something to that--even though there are, technically, only 8 villagers ... lesbihonest. To me, it's now just become a self-fulfilling prophecy. I'll use Fauna as my example (because I have her from a void and hate her dead-eyed guts): basically, because Fauna is Tier 1, the slave-traders are ensuring that there are plenty of them. So even though she's supposedly "popular," she's also the least rare. What I don't get is why, since supply is exponentially higher as a result of demand, they also go for so much more money. I guess cause the consumer is willing, but people do have control to just stop paying so much to drive the prices down.

And yeah, I agree with the TC too. Half the villagers I ultimately want are tier 5, two in tier 4, and one each in the top 3 tiers. Not only have I spent a lot of time just playing in-game, but tracking down the lower-tier villagers has become a time-waster on its own. I do find, however, that the hardest to find are tier 4 villagers.

From the majority of signatures i've seen it's usually tier 1 and 2 with one or two lowered tiered villagers. I would think more people would want to avoid high tier villagers to be special, but I've hardy seen that. Anyway I don't wanna argue.

I'm not trying to start an argument or anything. But I have a lot of Tier 1/popular villagers. And I can tell you that I don't pick my villagers based on what people think of them. I have Marshal in Eclair because I love his design. A lot of people think that he is bland, but the concept of an albino squirrel is pretty interesting to me. I also have villagers that a lot of people dislike. There have been times when people have come to my Hell, seen Katt or Tabby and said "ew" but it doesn't make me embarrassed nor does it make me want to get rid of them.

Obviously I can't speak for everyone. But personally I don't think people like popular villagers because they're popular, but rather those villagers are popular because a lot of people like them. Yeah, obviously there are people who like low tier villagers more. But it doesn't mean that they're "above the herd" or anything like that, it just means that they have different tastes.

There is some truth to your statement though!

I was so pumped waiting for ACNL to be released that I did a lot of research on it. Before I found out the game had an online community, I spent a lot of time looking through wikis. It was like this that I knew what every villager looked like before the game was even released. I remember even making a list of which villagers I wanted, which if I bet consists of mostly villagers that turned out to be popular.

BUT. There are people that go into ACNL without doing any research (whether its because they dont want the game to be spoiled or because they don't care) and I've noticed that these people tend to be happier with their villagers regardless of tier. I had a friend whose town was full of low tier villagers and she thought all of them were great. She had a town without paths or hybrids or anything, and had had her town like this for a long time. She was happy with it, and I remember telling her I loved her town and her villagers. But when she came to my town she was really impressed with it. There were villagers in my town that she didn't even know existed. Some of them she didn't really care for, but I remember her falling in love with Stitches and saying she wanted him in her town. Not that she went out of her way to get him or anything, but I do remember her liking her lazy villagers less after seeing Stitches. However, she didn't know Stitches was popular as I thought it'd be a **** move to tell her "My lazy villager is popular and nobody likes yours" I just told her that they were both equally cute.

There was also another friend of mine that knew little about ACNL until he joined tumblr. He didn't know Julian existed until he kept seeing him around tumblr. And (given that he loves unicorns) he fell in love with Julian from seeing him in screenshots. If Julian hadn't been popular and nobody posted pictures of him anywhere then he probably wouldn't have found out about him. But again, he liked Julian because he was a unicorn --not because he was popular.

Of course people can genuinely like a villager, and they are free to play the game they want. Nothing wrong with that. A lot of them do have really unique designs like Zucker, Ankha, and Kid Cat. I myself like Marshal and Erik a lot, they have nice designs. I think it's dumb to hate a certain villager because they are popular too. I don't think that just because you like a high tier villager, that you only like them for their popularity. However I still feel like people let this affect who they do and don't want.

I still don't think the list in general has ANYTHING to do with people wanting T1 animals so much.

I saw Beau in my sister's shopping area and he moved unexpectedly from her town, I got so happy and went on the internet and searched up the deer animals and wanted them all in my town because I didn't see them in other games and were so adorable.

Also people like my sister don't go on these sites, and she got octavian and marina in her town within 3 years, she loves them to death not because of the list. There's always going to be popular animals with or without it.

I personally love the animals I didn't see a whole bunch of times in my other games.

But from what OP is saying, yea it does suck that people AV tier 5s but that's because it takes MUCH longer to find someone to adopt them unless someone is lurking around the forums for that animal that day. People don't like to waste their time to -possibly- find a seller.

would also like to add that some people are also greedy and feel like T5s aren't worth selling because you get like nothing in return after holding them. I just like to see people happy.

I have 2 towns and I make every effort to adopt out every villager, all tiers are equal to me. Yes, I get more items/money for higher tiers, but thats the only difference. I had Diva in my town for over a year and she was my favorite villagers. When I went to adopt her out, she was snatched up pretty quickly. My only rule is I won't wait longer than one day. I have made that mistake before and it didn't go well.

I once tried to give away cookie and nobody answered, and If I remember correctly she is a tier 3... So at this point I, and since I time travel a lot, I dismiss every tier 5 or 4 villagers, maybe even 3 (Yeah, I know :( ) But I might reconsider doing that in the future.

Oh, man. I hate that. I wanted my dear Broccolo once, and 1. Nobody had him, 2. If they did, he was on autovoid. Luckily the person took him off of autovoid for me, but it's still sad. They should at least be given a chance.

Depending on the situation I try to make a post to give them away and stuff if anything, but usually when I need the gone ASAP nobody can grab them and it's because I am in the middle of getting someone in, so I usually don't have time to spare. But I try really hard to get them to someone else.

And I know a lot of my villagers are high tier and everything, but I actually like them for aesthtics, personality, didn't want them as a dreamie until I met them, or want them because they reminds me of something or someone near and dear to me. (In Marice, who I am still attempting to get it's a very dear friend who has passed away) For the most part it's coincidental that they're high tier, I got Julian and Stitches with intent to sell them off but ended up loving them, and they came in my campsite!
