For those that have or had 3 (or more) villagers with the same personality, do you find it too repetitive?
I currently have 2 lazies who I really like (Beau and Sherb), but I want to amiibo Bob in (my favorite villager). I like the variety of dialogue that comes from having different personality types, so I'm leaning toward not keeping more than 2 of any personality type, but I am curious to hear about other people's experiences.
I think it depends if you love that personality or not! For me, i love snooty so much that I could have a snootie island. At one point I had 3 and it was beautiful.
On the other hand when I had 3 lazies, 3 normals and 3 smugs, it drove me nuts! Hated them. So go with what personality you love most!
It does not matter much to me. I never personally found it annoying. But to each their own. I tend to try and invite every camper and let all but one or two I flag to keep go because I like how it makes the island feel alive and evolving.
For me at least, having more than one of the more "extreme" personalities would be a bigger deal-breaker than the same being true of a more neutral and subtle personality.
Granted, I don't play the game in English, but if I had to read the same gag about bugs in the ceiling or jogging seventy miles for a morning "warm-up" from different villagers multiple times a day, I'd get sick of it a lot more quickly.
That being said, though, there's nothing stopping you from shrugging off the on-screen dialogue and letting your imagination do the work.
I have three normals at the moment (chevre, lolly, and marina) and it's a lot. I'm pretty sick of having 1-sentence conversations and them walking away. Eventually, I'm hoping to only have 2 of each type maximum.
I have three smugs. The dialogue can be repetitive, but I haven’t found it to be too bad. I just kinda look at it like all the smugs are trying to one up the other.
i have four smugs currently. it isn't TOO bad dialogue wise, but it is hard to connect with more than ray and marshal. so, sadly, julian and colton will eventually move somewhere else.
i currently have 3 smugs and it does get a bit repetitive - it’s not awful or anything but obviously there’s only so much dialogue options for each personality lol

That's a creative way to adapt to circumstances. I have two Jocks and two Lazies, and I try to get creative with it as well...
My Jocks are Snake the ninja bunny and Rory the shisa; even if they both talk about exercise, I try to interpret like Snake is doing his absolute best to get strong (despite being a tiny rabbit) while Rory knows he's already strong and doesn't care nearly as much. This is supported by the fact that Snake actually tries to work out (his hobby is Exercise) whereas Rory (whose hobby is Music) just sings and eats candy all day.
Meanwhile, my two Lazies (Cranston the crested ibis and Zucker the takoyaki) have literally the same personality subtype and hobby, but the way I interpret that is that they're natural best friends. Imagining their interactions has been great for developing my own island headcanon, haha.
Yupp...
Currently have 3 Lazies and at one point had 3 crankies.
I let Octavian go already and now, it will sadly be Erik's turn.
Erik and Sherb, in particular, seem to be replicas of each other in terms of how they interact.
So I'll be letting Erik go and getting a jock soon, hopefully.
I guess a big detriment to not having all the personalities is not being able to unlock all the reactions or get as many recipes as you could be.
Also, I like the different interactions that the various personality types have from time to time.
I have 3 Normals, and 3 Snooties, and I don't mind it too much, though I might end up getting rid of two of my snooties. No reason in particular, but I am also unsure on if I will, but I love my normal babies. So much so that I could honestly have a whole island of them.
I can't have more than 2 of the same personalities, it gets too repetitive. O'Hare & Lopez literally say the same thing to me each day so I can't imagine having a 3rd smug.
No, I have three normals (Sally, Sylvana and Poppy).
I don't paid attention to the dialogue, so it doesn't really bother me.
I really like having them and watching them do their favorite hobby.
Sally is into music, so she (also Static and Marshal) sings a lot.
Poppy is into studying/education, so she's outside with a book or looking at nature with a magnifying glass.
Sylvana is into nature, so she'll be outside looking at bugs, trees, fish (if you have tanks out) and flowers while holding up a book.
I feel like, if you have a particular villager you like/interact with more than all of the others, it might help you avoid that feeling of repetitiveness by ensuring they're the only member of their Personality type on the island.
I talk to my Lillian/Bunnie 10x more than all of my other villagers, and after briefly having a different Peppy on the island, I learnt quickly that it feels pretty weird to see "Lillian's dialogue" coming from a different head on-screen.
Of course, that's not mandatory or anything, but for those of you who feel like their bestie/favourite is losing individuality as a result of another villager, it might help to keep in mind...
I'm in a dilemna because Molly is at my campsite and she looks adorable with her little fuzzy head, but I already have Ava and I'm looking to get another normal (a dreamie), I remember in my previous island I had 3 big sister types and it was a little too much . I might still get Molly and make Ava move out later, she's just too cute

Just realized I also have 3 lazies right now, the dialogue can get repetitive but there are many things I like about each of them individually so it doesn't bother me too much, they all have their own vibe.
I think the different hobbies really help to set them appart. Even if you have multiples of the same petsonality type, they feel different enough. Sure, they share the same dialogue, but their looks, houses, hobbies and preferences are all unique.
Pietro and Julian are an obvious couple, they sing together constantly, in fact you never find them not together. plus they're possibly the two gayest characters in AC history. because they're so close and so similar, it's obvious they'd pick up mannerisms and such from each other. super cute
I came up with the headcanon that Stitches was made by Sherb's mum when he was very small, and came to life after Sherb had a dream about him being alive. hence why they're just so similar and also the best of friends, you'll also never find them not hanging out together or talking to each other
and Judy and Diana are just a really good match. I can see them hitting it off and having a lot in common, so it works imo. plus I adore snooty dialogue and especially snooty conversations with other villagers so I'm more than happy to have more than 1
I'm already annoyed by two of the same personality, at least the hobbies make it alright. Like having one fashion peppy, one popstar peppy and one jock peppy could be doable I think.
