Thoughts on YouTube's new look?

I'm still figuring things out.
The only thing I hate so far is how they got rid of the box on the side with the scroll bar and the partner banners.

Change is good. I enjoy a nice refresh every once in a while. Most of the complaints I've been hearing have been something along the lines of "unorganized" or "I can't find (insert unnecessary feature here)!!!! OMG". Learn to deal with the new layout. Figure out where stuff is and move on.
Why change something that doesn't need to be fixed? The old layout was great. I miss YouTube 2006. =(

Why get a Mac over a PC? It's all about a matter of preference. Youtube doesn't cater to only one demographic, so it changes as it pleases, no matter how bad the feedback. Wait until the next update. You'll just *censored.4.0* and moan about it, only it'll be about how you just got used to this layout and now you have to start all over again, because that seems to be a phobia of yours. I'll cease the argument, since arguing with you is like arguing with my elbow.

I like how they made the high rated comments gather up top. The rate barrier helps to keep the stupid from leaking into my eyes most of the time.

Meh, its okay, just the comment section looks a little messy, but its nothing to whine over like a little girl.

This.

The ONLY reason the majority of people hate this new layout is due to the natural human dislike to change. I think I've only seen 1-2 posts in this entire thread of somebody explaining why they actually hate the new layout, and even then it's nothing more than something like, "You can't see the ratings before rating it yourself".

The difference between Macs and PCs is irrelevant to this. In that situation, you have a choice between two operating systems. You don't have a choice between two YouTubes. Now, if they would've been smart and gave you the option to still use the old layout, then things would be different. But no, Google is forcing these changes on everyone. Yes, there are people who like the new design better, but many, many people prefer the old layout more, and everyone's already used to it, so what's the point in changing it? They could always add new features without completely messing with everything. Why get rid of 5 star ratings for Like/Dislike? Why not keep both?! Google is changing everything that made YouTube great. Ever since Google bought it, it's been going downhill. Don't get me wrong, I still like YouTube, but I liked it much better how it was years ago. I'm not whining about the new layout or anything. I can live with it, but I don't think Google is doing the right thing here. I don't see why they feel the need to change so much about YouTube. It was fine how it was. They can add new stuff all they want (unless it's more ads, no one wants that), but why change and remove things?!

These many people that prefer the old layout don't actually prefer the old layout, they just dislike change.

They are changing it because you can't keep the same thing forever, you need to refresh and update, no it wasn't "needed" but if everything stayed the same forever and always we'd still be neglecting gay and black people, and forcing children to clean chimneys.

The idea of keeping both ratings and thumbs up/down is terrible, they would conflict. I don't see why you or anyone else has such an issue with the stars being removed, EVERYONE either voted 5 or 1 star anyway. The only dislike I have with thumbs up/down is that I can't see the rating before I rate, which really isn't that big of a deal.

Google isn't changing anything that made YouTube great, if you think that, you don't understand the concept of YouTube. What makes YouTube great is the community, the fact that a user can create a video and get responses from the audience and the fact that a normal person like you and I can get our thoughts, feelings and opinions out to the world through a simple video. A layout is not and will never be what makes YouTube great.

Ever since Google brought YouTube, if anything, it's been going uphill. If it wasn't for Google, we wouldn't have the type of videos we have today. By having the partner system it means people can make a living through YouTube videos which also means they have more time to make the YouTube videos that we love because they don't have a full-time job to commit to.

I think the only reason you so passionately hate the new layout is because you have an odd, unknown hate for Google. Seriously, get over it.

If you want to reply to this post, come up with some proper reasons for what's so bad about the layout and Google "destroying" YouTube, rather than the fact the 5-stars are gone, or it looks bad.

First of all, not everyone is complaining solely because they don't like change. Many people just flat out don't like the layout. If YouTube started looking how it is today, and changed to how it looked years ago, then there would be a lot of people happy about the change. Don't say that every single person only dislikes the new layout because of the fact that it's something new, because that's not true. I do like it when things change, if they change for the better. I never minded any of Facebook's changes because each new layout was better than the last to me. I can't say the same about YouTube. It is going downhill thanks to Google. There are ads everywhere, which were never around before Google came into the picture. And things are a mess now. The new channels are hideous, there are errors on videos all the time, and the comments are a total mess. You are right that it's the community that makes YouTube so great, but when the community is against the direction in which the site is going, don't you think it's a bad idea? And the community certainly isn't what it used to be. YouTube used to be a lot more friendly and the community just seemed a lot more connected than it is today. Now, you can't really blame that on Google, but the fact remains that the community isn't the same. Honestly, I can't think of anything good that has come out of Google running YouTube, aside from annotations and HD support. They've done a lot more to hurt the site, in my opinion, like the new channels (it would be fine if they hadn't forced everyone to use the new channels) and all the ads. And the partner program did exist before Google took over.

No, you're right, but the people who just flat out dislike the layout are small in numbers. Anyone that does flat out dislike is strange because it's very similar to before, with a few things switched around and images changed. How is this layout sooo bad compared to the last? I really don't understand.

The ads being everywhere isn't really that big of a deal. The only ads that I see as being an issue is the pre-rolls on videos, but they are on a small number of videos. If you hate ads that much install an ad-blocker.

What's so bad about the new channels? Everything's much cleaner in my opinion. Before you had to load up a whole new page to look at other videos, now it's all neatly organised.

The only errors I have experienced on YouTube was when the layout changed.

Comments currently are bugged, yes, but all websites experience bugs, not just websites owned by Google.

Not all community members are against the direction the site is going, many of the YouTubers I watch either aren't all that bothered or like the recent changes.

How is the community not what it used to be? The community hasn't changed, if anything, I think the community is better. There are tons of people doing daily vlogs and such now that it's better than it's ever been. And due to people doing nothing for income other than YouTube, the quality and quantity of videos have increased.

Yes, the partner system did exist before Google took over, but it's GREATLY improved since then, to the extent of people being able to quit their jobs due to it, as I mentioned before.
