Thoughts on Paths?

My first attempt at paths left me dissatisfied, so I took em back off and went back to grass. I tried again a while later and liked the pattern a lot more, so I laid them down, but I still have a lot of landscaping to do with flowers and bushes. It gives me a nice long term project to work on, and I like that.

If someone has defined natural dirt paths, or some bushes or flowers to help you figure out where to go a bit, that's fine. They don't have to be QR paths.

I personally couldn't wait to lay down my paths. I thought it was a really fun challenge to figure out where I wanted to put things.

again, Citalune is a great town with some natural path areas (i.e. no QR in that section) and North has a very natural look (though does use some mossy stone QR)

i'm kind of picky when it comes to laying paths down in my town, so normally i don't have them unless i find one i really really like. however i think a lot of dream towns have gorgeous paths and they look really good in that town but not in mine? idk if that makes sense but ya

i myself prefer towns with themes or specific aesthetics. that's what makes a town unique! my town, radville, has a color scheme of yellow and white, so my path is a yellow brick road. it also provides a course on which people are allowed to walk and i like structure and direction accompanied by creativity and imagination in a town to separate it from others. it does require a lot of patience and thinking but it's extremely satisfying to have a good-looking town!

I like them, but if someone doesn't want them, it's their town. One of my favorite mayors, CODEC, has a clean dream address simply because it fits his town. I prefer that over someone feeling obligated to lay down paths and having it not look great haha @_@;

For a long time I could not ignore the discrepancies with paths either. Grass texture sounds, weird corners, etc etc, I basically just went "how could they look good?". I totally understand if people think the same as I did.

Agreed. Your path isn't just from A to B, it's landscaping the area to make it feel as if that path belongs. That's very easy to do with dirt paths, but requires more work if a pattern path. But ultimately, it's what you like and feel good about. c:

I really like paths where I can tell what sort of texture its supposed to be, like stone or brick. Some paths can be too bright! But overall, I think they're great! I'm also conscious of how many slots I'm using, so most of my path patterns are also grass textured and can be scrambled with others patterns and flowers for variation.

Ultimately what's more important than paths, custom or natural, is organization. Even with a pretty path, a town with scambled trees, flowers and bushes can look incomplete.

If it weren't for the fact the grass started wearing down, I wouldn't have put up paths in my town. Almost every QR path I used left me dissatisfied simply because it felt so out of place despite how amazing it looked in the screenshots of the town using it. Not to mention the one I liked the most used up so much space that would require me to create a third character. In the end I found a nice brick path with a waterway which only took up 11 slots on my second character.

If a town doesn't have any paths I certainly won't judge. The person may have their reasons for not setting one up.

I really enjoy paths. Mostly because I hate walking through flowers and what not, but my villagers are in such an awkward place that to give them paths to each other houses would be incredibly taxing but once I get all my dreamies, I am planning on doing just that.

I am also super jealous of towns with natural paths haha! I don't think a town needs paths to look nice though.

I would never judge someone negatively for their town no matter what they did or didn't do. It's their town so they can do what they want. I do think that paths look nicer, but they require a lot of work and planning and not everyone wants to do that or finds it enjoyable.

Not pathing things give people an excuse to wander. "There was no direction."
I path because it looks great and makes me feel like I've accomplished something, but my sister paths her town because she likes the look it gives.

A pathless town isn't a worthless town, though it does look very nice. Up until New Leaf, I had never bothered with paths. When I started New Leaf, I still didn't use paths until I visited a few dreams in the Dream Suite. I then aligned the paths with the areas of each house in town. If you're using one path sample, it's not as tedious as you might think. If I lived nearby, I'd path your town myself.

I love the looks of paths but I only kinda have some laid down in my town. I would never judge if a town didn't havea path though! c=
